Bandsaws are infamously handy tools to have in the woodworking shop or the factory. Some people even have one in their sheds if they really feel the need to show off. There is a certain section of the male society that feel such an affinity with this tool that they will use it at every opportunity, appropriate or not.
But this is not to be recommended. National statistics show an unhealthy list of bandsaw accidents that have occurred through mis-use and the following are a general guideline of notes to try and avoid accidents.

Do NOT attempt to use your bandsaw to dissect snacks. You may be in the middle of some intricate sawing on your latest woodwork project and it may look like fun but cutting a Swiss roll with this implement is highly irresponsible and dangerous. Eighteen people every year (unofficial figures) are injured every year by band saw accidents that have occurred whilst cutting up food. This is because the food feeds through so easily that the operator slips and finger amputations have occurred.

One highly bored male has been shortlisted for the 'Award Of Ridiculous Things To Do' by using a bandsaw to trim his toenails. Thought to have begun as a bit of a dare by his mates, he managed the first trimming quite successfully and gained some sort of satisfaction that he could take his life (or at least his toes) in his own hands and continued with the process on a monthly basis. It is thought that the ensuing bloodbath occurred after the male got clever and tried to trim the nails with only a two week space in between and the nails weren't long enough.

It is always advisable to keep all body parts away from the workings of a bandsaw. According to health and safety guidelines, hair, paper and fabric are just a few of the things on a long list that shouldn't cut with a bandsaw and we all know how these rules come about. It's because some idiot has obviously tried it before and met with some messy end.

Anything that doesn't resemble wood or metal should not be cut with this tool. It is not a toy. This is why tools now come supplied with a 460 page manual of things not to do. This is so that the manufacturer doesn't get sued by someone saying "No one told me I couldn't cut my hair with it so when I couldn't find my scissors I thought it would be a good idea". Bandsaw manufacturers are sick of paying out compensation for this type of fool and have therefore issued an online guide of do's and don'ts for owners to follow.

Much safer are those men that wear nylon slacks and cagoules who enjoy nothing better than congregating at each other's garages on a Sunday afternoon to inspect each other's tools and discuss the merits of the band saw as opposed to the hack saw. The most active business their tools are likely to see are the Sunday morning polishing of its parts before the weekly neighbourhood viewing.

A bandsaw is most definitely a tool with numerous merits that has made life easier for so many people. Those people are in the wood working and metal working industry. If you are an avid DIY fan and you have the space for a small saw then by all means purchase it. But please, please ensure you follow all the safety instructions, use it for the purpose for which it is intended and never be tempted into dangerous stunts by your drunken mates.

Industrial Computers Versus Domestic Computers

It seems virtually impossible for most of us to imagine life without computers these days. We have come to rely on them so much for information, entertainment and most importantly, work. Every business depends on the reliability of computers. Even if it's only a small, one person business, that business will have customers and suppliers that all rely on computers to function and it will also employ the services of a bank that runs on computer networks so there really is no escaping it.

Many people will carry out their shopping over the internet, others will find necessary services and trades people and virtually all companies will have an internet presence given that this is the most effective and wide ranging form of advertising possible.

Beginning with the hugest industrial pc you have ever seen, down to the tiny hand-held devices that are now widely available, computers have made some profound leaps through technology to a point where almost every home, at least in the Western world, owns one. Even children seem unable to carry out school homework without a home pc these days.

Of course, the hand held computers, the laptops and the home pc's of today are simply not a patch on an industrial pc. The amount of data that the average pc deals with at home or at work is quite tame when you consider what an industrial pc copes with. But this is the way it has to be. An industrial pc is better equipped and much more reliable through necessity than a home or office pc simply because of the amount of data it has to manage. A domestic pc simply could not cope and for us all to have a computer with the capacity of an industrial pc would put it out of the price range of most of us.

These computers far outreach the home computer when it comes to performance. We all know the frustration of losing internet connection or waiting for a page to load that feels like it's taking for ever but is, in fact, probably taking a minute of two. This fact alone shows how much we have come to rely on computers to hurry our lives along.

High performance computers (HPC) will soon be capable of dealing with a thousand trillion operations per second and a thousand trillion bytes of data per second. These numbers are pretty incomprehensible to most of us because there is never going to be an instance when we could possible need this but when you look at worldwide events such as security and banking, then you could see how it would come in handy.

That said, this massive computer ability is most useful in the medical and technological fields of research. All the possible combinations of absolutely anything can be processed in drastically reduced time. In fact, the industrial computer currently coping with this data will provide more than 500 million hours of computing time and will perform equations that would take an average computer a total of 200,000 years to work out - all in the space of four weeks. Again, these are incomprehensible figures to the average person.

This computer, the NSF TeraGrid connects scientists and researchers across the US and makes the home pc look like a child's toy.

Last Night Of The Proms (Stage Whisper)

Those wonderfully helpful health and safety people are at it again - looking out for us in the community, knowing full well that we are completely incapable of breathing without needing a six week course of health and safety training first, just to ensure we don't breath in again instead of out and end up inflating ourselves to silly proportions. Or worse still, forgetting to breath in and continually trying to breath out, eventually causing our expiration.

This time they are concerned for our hearing and are insisting that performers at the Proms are to virtually enlist in health and safety training so that they are equipped with the ability to measure decibels and put up barriers between musicians to protect each other from loud crescendos. In other words, could they turn it down a bit please?

The equally wonderful and all encompassing European Union have passed a directive earlier in the year stating that the BBC is responsible for the level of noise that musicians are subjected to and they should not go above a certain level. This has brought extra cost and wasted time to the BBC who have had to subject staff to health and safety training in order to keep the music down to a dull roar.

Is it just me or isn't the proms all about rousing classical music that stirs the emotions and blasts the eardrums?

This move is more out of concern for the performers than the listeners as they are not listening to these levels of noise for one performance but a whole week. Spacing between musicians will overcome some of the problem by putting up barriers and seating them at different levels so that no one player has a noisy instrument right in their ear.

The EU directives also limit the time allowed for rehearsals and insists upon extra large space when rehearsals are taking place. So, your night out at the proms may look like a bit of a mish mash with musicians seated all over the place and it might sound a little wayward because of the lack of practice and it might not be so loud but at least you can rest assured that the health of the musicians eardrums is sound - unlike all the previous generations who have had, actually, no problems with their hearing.

I suppose it is possible that they could change their playlist, maybe going with something more like Whispering Grass or The Sound Of Silence but certainly not Bang Bang by Cher or Shout by Lulu.

The Proms are billed as the biggest classical musical festival in the world. Will it be quite the same if it's all toned down a bit? I doubt it.

Other news from the realms of those who haven't had the appropriate health and safety training to continue in the field of work includes the organ grinder and his stuffed toy monkey. A familiar sight on the streets of Derbyshire, the sixty four year old has to undergo a risk assessment for health and safety officials at the local council before he can continue to entertain the locals. He is in good company though as a Punch and Judy show was recently axed for failing to meet health and safety standards. Well, it is understandable given the violent nature of a Punch and Judy act - all that sausage stealing and truncheon wielding is a bad influence on the delicate minds of young children these days!

Is Cleanliness Next To Godliness?

Take a look back to old photographs from one hundred years ago and despite the fact that water was available, it was surprising just how little those people worried about dirt. Although it is now said that children were more resilient to germs back then, having built up a natural immunity because of their constant exposure, there was still too much disease spread from bad hygiene habits and close living quarters.

Today, the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction with many being obsessed with cleanliness and now we are told it is impossible to build up our own immunity. But where do you draw the line? It doesn't take much common sense to realise that while it's ok for children to play outside in the dirt they should wash their hands before eating to eradicate any untoward germs they may have picked up outside.

But the purpose of this article is to look at cleanliness on a much larger scale than kiddies dirty hands. Take, for example, the nation's hospitals. Overseeing hospital cleanliness was once the duty of matron and nobody would dare cross her, to the point where every inch of hospital surface was scrubbed to within an inch of its life! Hospitals were spotless and a place you could trust to go and recover from whatever ailed you.

These days, many people are afraid to go into hospital for fear of developing the MRSA bug. This bug is resistant to drugs and can prove fatal. It is spread through bad hygiene to vulnerable people in hospital and has been on the increase since funds for cleaning by outside contractors was scaled down to the bare bones. The government have been ploughing money into the NHS to clean up its act by bringing in more contractors that are carrying out thorough deep steam cleaning sweeps of hospital wards and rooms to try to eliminate the dangers of these super bugs.

So what is involved in a steam cleaning process that makes it any better than other methods of cleaning? What is so wrong with a mop and a bucket of bleach and water?

Well, for a start it is a natural process using natural sources. Water is used to create a vapour that reaches temperatures of up to 260 degrees Fahrenheit. This is hot enough to kill dust mites, viruses, mold and fungi. This is not only good news for people in hospital but also for those who wish to use steam cleaning in their homes. It gets rid of many allergy causes and sanitises the environment, deodorising at the same time.

Steam cleaning loosens ground in dirt that is absorbed into a towel at the same time. No chemicals are used in steam cleaning and this means that it is the most environmentally friendly method of cleaning anything from clothing, carpets, car interiors and soft furnishings to commercial kitchens and hospitals.

Another aspect to put steam cleaning above other methods is the fact that any soft furnishings will dry very quickly. The longer a cleaned surface is left damp, the more chance there is of mold spores growing and so the whole process would be a waste of time.

Many people have a cupboard stocked full of artificial cleaning products and while we may feel that keeping our homes clean is good for us, the impact that all these products have when poured into the water system, simply do us no good at all. It is far better to use an ecologically friendly water based steam cleaning process than any other.

When considering your annual vacation, there are so many possibilities and so many things to take into consideration that it can take the best part of six months to decide, particularly if you are going with a partner or children and their needs and desires have to be considered also.

Much also depends on budget but if you shop around, there are some last minute bargains to be had which could see you jetting off to somewhere much more exotic than you had originally planned, like Brazil, for instance.

Brazil holidays truly are a special experience. You will have the balmy weather that is to be expected south of the equator and a culture that is so diverse across the country that you can experience many different things in one trip. If you are looking for a honeymoon destination, consider a Brazil holiday for that touch of paradise to begin your life together.

A crystal clear ocean to swim in, packed with an abundance of precious corals and vividly coloured fish is the perfect setting for scuba diving or snorkelling. If you wish to simply soak up the rays and perfect that tan, a Brazil holiday will give you the ideal opportunity. White, sandy beaches and palm trees swaying in the breeze with a view of mountain ranges in the distance are all conducive to a truly relaxing break.

Brazil is famous for its colourful festivals and street parties with locals and visitors alike joining in the fun. Carnivals are going on all year round with one thing or another to celebrate, any excuse for a party!

The streets of this beautiful place are packed with places to eat, drink and socialise until the early hours and the properties themselves are a sight to behold.

From rows of pristine white homes with sun-baked terracotta roofs to the more colourful districts with multi-coloured houses painted in vivid, eye catching colours, there will be awe inspiring sights everywhere. The locals are all very friendly and will meet and greet visitors with open arms. The streets are also full of the wonderful sound of children's laughter.

When you choose your Brazil holiday, you will have the choice of built up towns that are more than well equipped to cater for families from top notch hotels to basic amenities that leave you free to come and go as you please. There is also the other side of Brazilian life where you will easily be able to find a little secluded cove where lush greenery wraps itself around small, sandy beaches with lapis blue waters lapping at the shore. Rock pools will keep the children entertained for hours as will a trip inland where you will easily come across an abundance of unusual wildlife that is as colourful as the people of this country.

For those who simply cannot go on holiday without a little shopping expedition, Rio De Janeiro is the place to be. This is a thriving city on a par with London when it comes to the modern, designer shops that line the smart streets. Take time to explore this part of Brazil and you will find, tucked away in little side streets, gift and craft stores where you can buy, for a very reasonable rate, special gifts that say something about the country itself, things that are unique to Brazil itself and that are often lovingly made by hand.

So, it would seem that as long as you like the heat, Brazil is the perfect holiday destination, whether it be a family holiday, exploring holiday or romantic break for two.

Making A Change For The Better

Many people are choosing to hang onto their homes instead of selling and moving on due to the pressure from an imminent recession and the loss of profit in buying and selling houses right now. These same people are choosing to decorate their homes and give them that freshened up feel to make that difference. This can be in various ways from extensions for those who have slightly more money to a simple redecoration job for the rest of us.

Fashions come and go with everything including interior design. We see phases that range from the plain and contemporary to the delicate and ornate. Of course, it really depends on your tastes and the style of your home because there is still a huge range of choices to make for the interior decoration of your home.

I suppose you could determine the height of interior design fashion by the price tag. For example, there may be a new designer kitchen tile on the market that has ornate Victorian style floral decoration embossed all over it and they may be four hundred and twenty five pounds per tile but would they look right in your new build square box property? Somehow, I doubt it.

So, price is irrelevant unless you have no taste or mind of your own whatsoever or if you're lucky enough to have the designers decide to make pricey fashion kitchen tiles that just so happen to be suitable for your particular type of property.

For some time now, simplicity, plainness and neutral looks have been the hot thing in interior design. From neutrally painted, plastered walls to kitchen tiles in natural looking terracotta, clay or slate colouring, the emphasis is on bringing the outdoors inside, with materials that take us back to nature.

However, in typical fashion world style, the tables are turning. People are becoming tired of the plainness and are looking for something that expresses a little more individuality. Kitchen tiles are now either brightly coloured and mixed, set into particular feature layouts or even decorated with fussy patterns. These fussy kitchen tiles are importantly teamed with a room where the rest of the decor and furnishings are fairly plain so as not to clash and the kitchen tiles then themselves become a feature.

Another hot feature of interior design at the moment is wallpaper. Wallpaper has become fashionable once again due to the designers bringing out some particularly striking designs that catch the eye. Patterns are bold and but when using these, especially if you have a small property, then it is a good idea to use one feature wall for the boldly patterned wallpaper and leave the rest plain coloured. This stops the pattern from becoming over-bearing and making the room look messy.

Furniture should also be taken into consideration when you are decorating. If you are going to keep what you already have, then you need to factor this in when choosing new wallpaper or tiles. If you are buying new furniture then you have the option of choosing this to match any of your favourite colours, wallpapers, patterns and styles, whether you want to go modern, classical or traditional.

Whatever your tastes, there will be something in every price range on the market to suit you and it is by far the cheaper way of making a change than moving house, particularly in the current climate, and as we all know, a change is as good as a rest!

Internet Dating Loses Its Stigma

The dating game is never easy at any age, whether you are ten or 50 plus. Up to the age of around eleven or twelve, it is perfectly acceptable and normal to state that a couple are 'going out' together and not actually have to do anything about it other than smile shyly across the classroom at each other. After that age, action needs to be taken, and all right at a time when hormones are ranging and self awareness is horribly magnified.

We are aware of our bodies changing, of the way our voice sounds, of how clumsy we feel and our parents despair at our mood swings that see us disgustingly loved up to the depths of despair when things don't run smoothly.

Somehow or another, we bungle our way through this stage and make it to our late teens and early twenties where our confidence has outwardly grown but our self esteem is a little fragile still. However, at this age we have the loud nightclubs to hide behind and most of our flirting and first dates are bolstered by the noise of a club. Interaction with the opposite sex is mostly visual, this helps to avoid any verbal rejection.

One way or another, we bungle our way through the early years of dating and make it to domesticated marital bliss, or something like that. However, it is only the minority of marriages that will see you contentedly shuffling into old age. A good proportion of marriages will unfortunately end in divorce and many other marriages will be tragically split by the death of one partner or the other. So, where does this leave us?

This means that we get to the age of 50 plus and have to make a choice. Do we face up to another thirty of forty years alone or do we attempt to get back into the dating game? If you choose to get back into the precarious dating game, where on earth do you start? After all, who wants to start pubbing and clubbing at the age of 50 plus?

Of course, there are those who don't have to face this mammoth task who will suggest helpful things like joining a evening class. You can learn a new skill and meet other like-minded people. Well, that's all very well but what if you spend hours and hours at these classes and there's no one there that you like? You could spend months or even years of your life learning all this great stuff but still finding your evenings lonely and your social life bare because of the lack of a suitable partner.

Increasingly popular these days is the advent of internet dating. In its early days it came with a certain amount of stigma. If you had to resort to internet dating you were seen as somewhat desperate and unable to bag someone by yourself but it is now officially recognised as a respectable and efficient way to meet the right person. It also offers a certain amount of security.

There are websites designed specifically for people aged 50 plus and this helps to filter out the unsuitable age groups for its members. You can scan through the members already listed and if you like the look of someone you can have a read through their profile. This will give you an indication of their likes and dislikes, their interests and hobbies and is a good indication as to whether or not you have anything in common.

You can also put yourself onto one of these sites and sit back and wait for the enquiries to come flooding in. Most people will upload a photograph of themselves alongside their profile and while the older age group understand that outward appearance isn't everything, a certain amount of physical attraction is important.

Internet dating sites also give you the opportunity to get to know someone through email and telephone conversations until you are comfortable enough to meet them in person. It gives you chance to get over any self confidence issues you may have, and these issues affect people of all ages.

Just don't forget that the same rules apply to dating at any age - always let someone know where you are going and who with. So sign up and get back into the dating game - you will soon remember how much you enjoyed it.

New Car Versus Used Car

There are still the uber wealthy that will still be paying out for brand new cars and some bargains can be had here while suppliers are desperate to pull in new custom. However, one thing that should be considered when buying a new car is that the moment you drive that car off the forecourt, it has already lost several thousand pounds of your hard earned money.

Brand new cars are one of the things that have slipped by the wayside while the economy is under the threat of a recession. Of course, people still need reliable vehicles to get to work etc so they are turning to used cars.

There is the possibility of buying a used car from a private seller and while the majority of them are trustworthy, there are still some that will try to rip you off, never to be seen again. Even the honest, above board average Joe looking to sell his car cannot guarantee that you will get to the end of the road without some unforeseen occurrence happening.

Indeed, in one street recently, two neighbours sold their cars from their driveways for buyers needing a new runabout and not wanting to pay forecourt prices. One was a used Honda, the seller having looked after it, kept up with the servicing and generally looked after it well. The buyer of the used Honda drove off happily and continued using the car without any hiccups for many months before some tweaking needed to be done.
The neighbour of the used Honda sold a Peugeot to a buyer, in good faith, yet within a week a mechanic had flagged up a plethora of problems that the seller had no way of knowing about. It really is a risky way to buy a used vehicle.

If you are looking for a used Honda, Peugeot, Mini, Mercedes or whatever, the forecourt is always the better option. It may be that little bit more expensive but you do have the peace of mind that comes with a guarantee of three months at the very minimum. This means that you will be on the road with some reassurance that you have a good amount of time within which any problems that surface will be dealt with without too much fuss.

When buying from a used garage forecourt, there is also the knowledge that little, if any, money will be lost. In fact, I have personally bought a car from a garage forecourt and managed to re-sell it within six months at a profit. This is not the usual way of things but it really depends on how well you look after the car and also a little bit of luck in finding a buyer that is looking for just what you are offering and is willing to pay what you are asking.

A well cared for used car will escape the teething problems of a brand new car and it will not really lose you any money for some time. The best idea is to buy a car with a provable service history. If you cannot, or don't want to pay, used car forecourt prices and are willing to take a chance with a private seller, then protect yourself by taking a knowledgeable person with you that can check it over as well as they can. Also, try to buy a car with a service history so that you can insure, as far as possible, that it has been well looked after. This will mean you have done everything in your power to get the best car at the best price.

Web Design In Essex Assists Struggling Businesses

Competition in the world of business has become ever fiercer and many companies are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Due to people spending less, there is more competition between companies that offer similar services and products. This leads to a downturn in profits but the only way to pick it up is by either reducing prices and/or better marketing and this all costs more money. So, they need to spend money to make money right at a time when there is less in the pot.

Businesses in Essex are feeling just this sort of thing but many are planning a marketing strategy that puts the most money in the most effective places and cuts money where it does no good. Given that the majority of people will now find services and goods via the internet, it makes sense to concentrate your marketing campaign this way and put the bulk of your budget into your website and web advertising to attract new custom and to get your company seen.

This is good news for any business involved in the sector of web design in Essex. Although times are leaner and some places are dropping their concentration of websites, these ones really are cutting off their noses to spite their faces. It's false economy to cut back on spending exactly at a time when it is needed more than ever.

It truly pays to find a good company that deals with web design in Essex. If there is any business to be had in your particular field, then an effective web campaign will bring it your way.

Internet surfers come in two different types. There are those serious shoppers who use the internet more as a directory. They are efficient at finding what they need and filtering out the non-applicable sites. They will source what they need, avoiding everything else and will often go with the first thing that meets with their budget. This is something that a good company in the arena of web design in Essex will be adept at dealing with.

They will ensure that your site is simple to use, that all the relevant information a customer is looking for is to hand and that they are not bouncing straight off your site onto something else because they cannot navigate it effectively. To have a site that is complicated is a complete waste of money and an internet presence will be a total waste of time as it will not generate the much needed business and it will soon fold.

The other type of internet user is the bored surfer. These are people that kill time just surfing around looking at anything that grabs their attention. These people are often impulse buyers and this is also a good way of bringing in business. Your site needs to be eye catching without being over fussy or garish. Simple web site design needs to also look classy - nobody wants to think they are buying cheap stuff - even if they are.
They want to feel like they are getting a quality product at a competitive price so when instructing your web site designer, think carefully about the wording you want to use and the images you wish to display. Try to look at it from a shopper's perspective rather than a business angle.

For those businesses that are beginning to struggle during this financial crisis, take a long, hard look at just where your money is going and remember that sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate.

The Importance Of The Teen Prom Arrangements

The teenage girls these days just have no idea they're born. Regardless of class, status or familial wealth, they still expect to have everything. From a young age, these girls have rooms that are kitted out with pink plastic that has been moulded into TV's fancy bedroom furniture, every possible toy they could want and all the gadgets that make them feel older beyond their years such as DVD players, Sky TV and mobile phones.

This never changes as they get older either. Young girls go through their lives expecting Daddy to hand them everything on a plate. A flutter of the eyelashes and a whimper that threatens to turn into a full blown tantrum frequently has Daddy turning to the overdraft or bank loan application forms to keep his little darling happy.

The latest craze for young girls that has been brought to us by the good old Americans is the high school prom. If it wasn't for all those hideous American sitcoms that our kids are fed on a daily basis they would have no idea of such events. There is no teenage programme from the States that does not glorify the annual high school prom. Girls are dressed up to the nines and Daddy employs chauffeur car hire for their little darlings to ferry them backwards and forwards.

Things are no different in the UK now. Despite a growing recession, kids still want that once a year treat of a prom, complete with dress, corsage, date and chauffeur car hire.

So girls, let's face it, it's all about the dress, no? Planning takes months because it has to be just right. You have to do some investigations to try and ascertain exactly what the competition are wearing so that you can outdo them. You are essentially aiming for something that has a little edge of sex appeal - it has to be tasteful though, tasteful enough for Daddy not to notice but to give the boys a little idea.

The dress should be of a colour that is more girlish than garish but also sophisticated, so canary yellow with a cerise pink ruffle is not to be recommended unless you intend to skip out early to attend a carnival. Black is always a good option, particularly if you are carrying a few extra pounds, but you have to make the design something stunning that will stand out from all the other little black dresses in the room.

Once the dress is sorted, the corsage is fairly easy as the choice is limited. Much more difficult is the accessories to your outfit. Jewellery should be tasteful not cheap looking, it should be delicate not chunky. No point in wearing a delicate corsage and a rope of chunky great beads if you want to make the right impression.

Last but not least comes the transport. Chauffeur car hire is an important, and probably the most expensive, part of a prom for the parents. There are probably no more than five top cars that could be chosen and by far the favourite chauffeur car hire to be used during prom time would have to be the stretch limousine. The only saving grace for the fathers in all of this is that they can club together and hire a limousine to run around and collect all their little high school beauty queens and take them to their moment of glory at a reduced rate to each Daddy.
