Every day, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends in America. In 2000, there were 1,247 females and 440 males who were murdered by their partner. Additionally, homicide is the leading cause of death for pregnant mothers; more than cancer, respiratory failure, car accidents, drug overdoses and suicide. While intimate partner crime may not always lead to such a tragic end, an abusive relationship may sneak up on the victim and escalate suddenly, and it may also leave the individual with long-lasting emotional scars.

Physical abuse is the most common definition of domestic violence crime. Behaviors range from hitting, grabbing and choking to throwing things or assaulting with a weapon. According to a Center for Disease Control study, individuals who were victims of intimate partner violence were three times more likely to get a sexually transmitted disease, more than twice as likely to smoke and binge drink and were more likely to have arthritis, high blood pressure and a disability later in life.

It's important to remember that even if the violence occurs in one's own home, the police have the power and authority to protect you from an attack. Additionally, they will be able to find you a temporary place to stay if you need one.

Sexual abuse is another common form of crime committed within the household. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence reports that, "between one-third and one-half of all battered women are raped by their partners at least once during their relationship."

These situations could be forced sex when you clearly say you do not want it, it could be unsafe sex without condoms, or it could be degrading sexual activity. Crime experts say that females who are abused physically and sexually are at a high risk of being seriously injured or even murdered.

As an outside observer, the last thing you want to believe is that a friend or family member has become a victim of intimate partner crime. However, you need to be vigilant and recognize the warning signs because it may be difficult for a victim of such violence to simply "get out."

People may be suffering from abused if they have frequent "accidental" injuries, sudden absences from work, constant phone calls from their partners, fear of their partner's anger, personality changes, fear of conflict, lack of assertiveness, isolation, insufficient resources to live, depression, crying or low self esteem. To help your friend or family member, you can call a hotline to help plan an intervention.

Should I Buy Photos On Facebook?

Why anyone would buy photos to put onto their Facebook profile is beyond reckoning. It is a free site that allows people to share stories, find friends or simply blog about their day.

If you are new to Facebook or its competitor MySpace, then you may have a few questions when it comes to handling your profile and making it unique. A little knowledge about how Facebook works will go a long way to creating your perfect profile for other members to view.

Do not buy photos. Your Facebook albums can be filled with whatever pictures you want. The hardest part of the entire process will be sending the pictures from your camera to your computer and then uploading them onto the site. There are some specific steps that you go through in order to upload pictures onto your profile and into your albums.

The first hurdle you must cross is the Facebook login. Once you have logged in it is time to go to your account and find the update account information. This is the place where you put in your personal information. There is a section devoted to creating albums and uploading pictures.

If you need help, then simply click the help photos link. Facebook will provide you with step-by-step instructions on creating your albums and will have a section devoted to uploading photos into these albums. There is a maximum number of photos you can put in one album (it is sixty) but you can create as many albums as you wish.

The profile Facebook allows you to create can be whatever you want to make of it. Upload your family vacation pictures into the Facebook album pages and you can share stories about your adventures with your friends. Having a picture on your profile page is a great way for you to find friends and have them find you as well.

It definitely beats the generic picture that all users have when they first create a profile. If you want to keep some of your photos private, then there is an option for that as well. So you let people see what you want them to see. How easy is that?

There are a few instances where you do buy photos that eventually wind up on your Facebook profile. You may need a photo lab to print off your pictures onto a disc which would cost you money. You could also be purchasing pictures that are copyrighted by your favorite photographer.

But those are generally the only two cases that it would be acceptable to purchase photographs. Once you have your photos assembled, it is time to upload and create albums for your friends and family to enjoy as they browse your profile on Facebook.

Taking A Look At Bedding Collections For 2008/2009

Luxurious bedding collections for 2008/2009 range from rich coffee and taupe to crisp white and spa blue. You can get chic contemporary embroidery or an ethnic Moroccan flair. One thing designers seem intent on is providing you with a diverse range that encapsulates your personal style and offers a subtle hint of color or pattern without whacking you over the head with it.

The designs are all striking, at first glance, but ultimately soothing and enjoyable to keep around for years to come. Eco-friendly designs are beginning to emerge this year as our global consciousness seems to shift and vivid accents are in.

"Sex and the City" fans may recall Charlotte's fun red-and-white, poppy and ivory silk charmeuse bedroom set. The exotic design is one of the bedding collections from designer Ann Gish and can be purchased for $200 to $810 at Neiman Marcus. Gish is known for her attention to detail, quality construction and experimentation with various textures.

She likes to layer her comforter sets with various velvets, high-thread-count cottons, silks and taffetas. She'll mix a bright and bold with a neutral to bring a room to life. Her "Ready To Bed" collection offers 100% silk at a reasonable price. These bedding accessories are fit for royalty!

Orange is "in" for this year's bedding collections and no luxury bedding proves that more than Mystic Valley Traders' "Turtle Bay Mandarin Collection." The exuberant, bold, burnt orange accent pillows complement a gray bedspread trimmed in orange and gold.

The best part about Mystic Valley Traders is that they offer fine bedding, but the items are made from certified organic linen and natural cotton, which makes it an eco-friendly selection. There are other choices to meet your style as well.

For instance, the red, black and gray geometric "At the Ritz" spread shouts class from the art deco era with "tuxedo and gala stripe prints, while the "Out of Africa" collection brings a room to life with animal patterns. You can find these collections and more at "Mvt Bedding", retailing from $1350 to $1850.

The cost of designer bedding collections can easily run into the thousands of dollars. However, many people pass their decadent bedspreads down as family heirlooms. Many nights of satisfying slumber will be spent beneath these dazzling designs and soft textures, so it makes sense to purchase a comforter set that sets you apart in terms of style and comfort.

Learning About Budgeting And Money Management Is Vital To Avoid Financial Disasters

Anyone who has worried and stressed about their finances has probably also had a lot of concern over doing a good job with the budgeting and money management of their personal affairs. It is important to have good money management skills in this day and age so that you are able to enjoy the many things that life has to offer, rather than constantly worrying that you just don't have enough money to get by.

Learning the ins and outs of personal financial budgeting and management is something that is ideally taught to youngsters at an early age so that they can develop good money management skills right from the start. The later someone begins to take financial management seriously, the more potential there is for them to get into personal money management problems and even into serious financial straits that can be difficult to recover from.

It is always best when children and teens are able to learn about budgeting and money management because this education and turn into a set of money management skills that will be with them for the rest of their lives. When people don't have the chance to learn how to manage credit and their personal finances, they will most likely waste money and burn through it as soon as they earn it, and they may get themselves into debt way over their heads.

There are many people who enter adulthood without having learned about budgeting and personal financial management. They find themselves exhilarated at the money they make at their first full-time job, and often such exhilaration leads to overspending and a lack of preparing for the future, of not being prepared for emergencies and of overusing credit cards and other credit vehicles that can soon lead to serious debt.

If a person sinks deeply into debt when they are still in their twenties, because of immaturity and poor money management abilities, then they can end up spending the next twenty years, or more, trying to dig out of the hole of consumer debt that they put themselves into. Even worse, poor money management and significant debt can also lead to bankruptcy all too easily and this is a blemish on a person's credit record that lingers for over a decade.

The ramifications and consequences of bankruptcy are more than just a matter of clearing away excessive debt and having your credit damaged. There are many other underlying issues that arise and filing for bankruptcy can affect your ability to get a good job, affect the insurance rates you pay, affect the interest rate on a mortgage, auto loan, and other types of loans, and can be an embarrassing thing to have to try to explain every time someone needs to pull your credit report.

The fortunate thing is that people who make the effort to learn about budgeting and money management will stand a good chance of averting personal finance money management disasters, such as bankruptcy. Indeed, it is never too late to start improving financial management in your life, yet starting sooner rather than later is always recommended.

Do You Know The History Of Buddhism?

The story about Buddhism and how it came to be all started long ago with a king named Suddhodana. It was his son, Siddhartha, who would later in life become the Buddha. Yes, some of the stories you find on the internet and in books are often fantastical in its nature.

It is a unique blend of fairytale and fact in the Buddhist teachings that can be found today. There is quite a lot more to Buddhism than just having a big Buddha statue sitting on your desk as a decoration. It is a great piece of history and millions of believers follow the teachings of Buddhism.

A prediction was made by a holy man regarding Siddhartha. The holy man prophesized that the young prince would either grow up to become a great ruler or he would become a wise holy man. The king was obviously dismayed that his son might abdicate his princely life and so tried to shelter the young man from the outside world.

Unfortunately for Suddhodana, this did not stop the outside world from coming into contact with his son. At the age of 29, Siddhartha came into contact with what is now known as the "Four Sights." He came across an elderly man, a corpse, a diseased man and a holy man. This gave him a glimpse into the sufferings of mankind and Siddhartha was so moved that he abandoned his princely throne to become a holy man himself.

The true path, when learning about Buddhism, is what Siddhartha found. The path to enlightenment, or Bodhi, can be found through the use of meditation. His previous attempts included fasting and enduring pain.

It is a good thing for Buddhists everywhere that they do not have to use these methods in order to find enlightenment. The Buddhist teachings are ones of gentleness and concentration upon meditation.

Siddhartha's meditation retreat came in the form of meditating beneath a tree outside of a village for forty-nine days. It was during these forty-nine days that he attained enlightenment and could begin teaching his findings to the rest of the world.

From this point on, Siddhartha became known as Buddha. Buddhist studies teach followers that the true path to ending human suffering in this world is to follow a strict path set forth by the Buddha. It involves ritualized chants and meditations to alleviate the conflicts that plague humanity.

If you are interested in learning more about Buddhism and the principles that make up this religion and philosophy, then there are many websites and centers that you can turn to for information. Perhaps the Buddhist practice will become one that you wish to follow in your pursuit of higher endeavors. You can visit "Buddhism About" for more information.

Your Options When Seeking Bankruptcy Advice

Bankruptcy advice varies, depending on who you ask. A credit card debt reduction company might say that it's better to just stick it out, settle your debts and establish a monthly payment schedule, even if it takes you five years to finish it!

Needless to say, many of the debtors set up on such plans drop out and file for bankruptcy anyway. If you were to ask a lawyer, then they might say that bankruptcy is the only option for you, while asking for more than $250 just to file. Many people find they can't come up with the lump sum to go through with it and feel they are beyond all hope.

Bankruptcy advice has gotten more liberal over the years due to changing laws. To avoid scores of debtors flooding onto the streets with no property and nothing left to live for, the laws have changed to allow debtors to keep certain property, despite filing for bankruptcy. The debtor may keep up to $2,500 in cash, $2,400 in auto equity and unlimited 401k funds.

Additionally, by law, employers cannot fire an employee who files for bankruptcy, although potential employers can choose not to hire a new employee based on that factor. Often with a filing, debtors will need to attend credit restoration and debt management courses.

When you're seeking advice about bankruptcy, be sure to double-check what can and can't be discharged. For instance, you'll still have to pay off Uncle Sam if you owe taxes for the past three years.

However, if you have personal income taxes over 3 years old, then you can discharge them through bankruptcy. Fiduciary taxes cannot be discharged, nor can most student loans and liens. If you owe child support or alimony, you will still have to pay up.

If you don't list debts on your bankruptcy petition, then they will not be covered. If you have debts from drunk driving or other "willful and malicious" harm, you'll still have to pay your dues. However, there are many things that can be removed when you file for bankruptcy, such as all unsecured credit card debt, wage garnishments, utility termination, fraudulent credit claims and foreclosure.

After you receive bankruptcy advice, there are a few things to consider before you file. First, be sure you can't negotiate with your creditors, reduce your balances with a settlement letter or arrange a monthly payment plan. Generally speaking, if you can only afford minimum monthly payments on your bills and cannot pay off all your balances in five years, then you should file for bankruptcy and then focus on credit restoration services.

How To Create Your Own Myspace Avatars

Myspace avatars come in all styles and categories. You can have static images or animated videos. You can select animals, ethnocentric images, celebrities, gothic/emo/rock icons, love avatars, music avatars, funny/scary/party theme icons, games, cartoons, brands, artistic themes or sports icons. If the pre-made icons at "Glitter-Graphics", "Cool Avatars" or "Myspace Avatars" don't suit you, then you can even make your own!

If you'd like to create your own Myspace avatars the computer geek way, then you'll need a computer with an internet connection, movie software like Quicktime or MovieSnapshot and photo editing software that can create layers, like Adobe Photoshop. To create still images from a movie/AVI file, you'll need to choose an animated sequence, video or movie trailer. If you have a movie on DVD you'd like to grab a scene from, then you'll need to rip your DVD into an AVI file using appropriate software.

Next, you'll have to play the video clip, pause on the shot you want to make an avatar out of. Some software will allow you to select "create thumbnail" or "save image," or in other cases you'll need to click "print screen" on your keyboard and paste into MS Paint to save as a screen shot. Advance the clip to the next frame and create a still image, and continue doing this for as long as you want the sequence to go on. Then you can open all the still images in Photoshop and place each image in its own layer, saving the animation as a GIF file.

For some, Myspace avatars are a nice anonymous outlet to self expression. Not everyone is comfortable posting their actual photographs online. After all, anyone can see you. Girls sometimes worry that men will be drooling over their pictures and some adults fear that their likeness or identity may be stolen.

The last thing you need is an ex-lover tracking you down or incriminating photos to surface. Instead, why not use Myspace graphics that say something about you? Or some people prefer to create a virtual person on sites like "Meez", selecting the same eye color, hair color, clothing style and facial features with characters that look like "Zwinkies," "Sims" or "Second Lifers."

Want to send your Myspace friend a message? Check out the wide variety of Myspace avatars! You can send your boyfriend an animated avatar of two cartoon monkeys kissing, or you can send your best friend a "friends forever" icon with two cats hugging.

There are birthday animations or just plain funny animations that you can post because they remind you of someone in particular. Avatars are a great way to let Myspace friends know you are thinking them, in addition to expressing yourself.

What To Look For When Choosing A Credit Card

Consumers with reasonably good credit may receive several credit card offers in the mail each month. Companies may offer such things as a 0% introductory rate or low rates for balance transfers. While such offers may be tempting, it is wise to read the fine print on any offers you receive before applying for a card. You also need to evaluate your financial needs as well as your own debt management skills before choosing among the proliferation of cards being offered.

The first thing most consumers look at in credit cards is the annual percentage rate, or APR. While this is an important factor, it is not the only thing to consider when evaluating offers. You also need to look at things like finance charges, over-limit fees and late charges. These things can add up to a higher than expected bill.

If you plan to pay off your balance every month, then you should also look at the grace period. This is the period of time you have to pay off your balance before the company starts charging interest. In recent years, grace periods have gotten shorter, and many card companies have done away with them altogether. However, many companies still have grace periods as long as 25 days. If you pay off your credit cards every month, then this will be a benefit to you.

Consumers often seek to take advantage of credit card offers of low introductory interest rates. Companies may offer interest rates of 0% APR. Companies also offer low interest rates for balance transfers.

These rates can be a great advantage for the consumer who can pay off their card debt quickly, within the introductory period. It is important to remember that these low rates are temporary, and after a period of time, usually six months, the regular interest rate will kick in.

In the past, a credit card company would decline a purchase once the consumer had reached his or her credit limit. However, these days, the charge on the card will be accepted, and the company will charge an over-limit fee. This is another of the many factors consumers need to watch for when evaluating card offers.

Fortunately, the internet has made the task of comparing offers much easier. There are many websites that give comparisons between various offers. The Federal Reserve Board has a website at "Federal Reserve" where consumers can check out various offers. A bit of homework before you fill out an application can save you from taking on more personal debt, in the form of fees and interest down the road.

Halloween Safety Is Always A Concern

No holiday conjures up all of America's deepest darkest fears more than Halloween. There are many sources of Halloween terror, such as razor blades in apples, cyanide in Pixie Stix, needles in Snickers bars, sex predators lurking in dark doorways, psychos with chainsaws and kidnappers in parked vans. While the vast majority of Halloween horror stories are exaggerated and unfounded, the real dangers are fires, hand injuries caused by carving pumpkins and traffic accidents.

Since the 1970s, Halloween safety has focused on the fear of contaminated candy. In 1970, 5-year-old Kevin Toson died from a heroin overdose. A few days later, officials found that the boy hadn't eaten heroin-laced candy, as originally believed. Rather, he had accidentally gotten into his uncle's heroin stash and the family had sprinkled heroin in the boy's candy afterwards to protect the uncle.

Similarly, in 1974, 8-year-old Timothy Mark O'Bryan died from cyanide poisoned Pixie Stix in Houston, Texas. However, upon closer inspection, detectives found that the boy had in fact been poisoned by his own father. Even though these poisonings were far from random, parents still feared for their kids' safety amid the Halloween fun.

Even though there are many urban legends surrounding Halloween, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that, on average, four children are struck and killed by cars each October 31st, which is four times the fatality rate on any other night. The statistics do not even include accidents that occur in driveways or on sidewalks, so the numbers are suspected to be higher.

Experts say kids in dark costumes and vision-obscuring Halloween masks dashing through the streets for delicious Halloween candy is a recipe for disaster. To protect the kids, costumes and candy bags should have bright reflecting tape on them, parents should accompany little ones and older kids should be given the pre-trick-or-treating huddle to discuss serious safety rules. Kids should be told not to run, to stay together at crosswalks and to carry a flashlight.

While the real danger of Halloween has been largely exaggerated, the urban legends and myths should not diminish the very real fears. From 1996-1998, there were 15,500 fires from October 30th - November 1st, causing 45 deaths, 175 injuries and $92 million in losses, reports the National Fire Protection Association.

They say that arson activity is 10% higher around Halloween, and there is the additional danger from unwatched jack-o-lanterns. To stay safe, parents should make sure their Halloween decorations (like dry corn stalks) are away from electrical outlets or live flames, with pumpkins illuminated by flashlights or bulbs rather than candles. Additionally, all kids costumes should be made of flame retardant materials.

Of course the cost of renting luxury private jets may be out of reach for many, yet for those executives or rock stars who don't want to settle for anything less, the options are many, considering there are practically thousands of types of aircraft you can choose from. Enjoy your traveling time in privacy and confidentiality that only a private jet service can provide. How's that for luxury and comfort?
