Cellular Phones: The Unending Fad

About a couple of years ago, two technological advancements battled for supremacy in the telecommunications industry. Both were widely used not only in the business and government sectors but it was just as useful with other sectors as well. But no matter how close a competition is, there can only be one winner. And if it is not yet evident, cellular phones have made their way to the top and left its closest competitor before, the beeper.

Cellular Phones, Mobile Phones, or cell phones are just some of the common names given to these hand-held devices which have evolved from being a simple communications tool to a multi-functional device. Cell phones today have taken the telecommunications industry to a whole new level. Aside from functioning as a phone, it serves as a music player, a television, a gaming device, and many other functions you can think of fitting into it. These miniature bastions of power have evolved from being a luxury to a necessity. With communication being the spotlight of this new age, what better way to be part of the technological revolution other than having one of its weapons within your palms.

Many brands and innovations continue to come out in the market every now and then, offering a wider variety of functionalities which weren't present from its predecessors. But better features also means higher prices. One thing that is very much fascinating is that people do not seem to be bothered by how expensive cell phones cost. They continue to pursue the newest cell phones even if they do not have the finances to afford it. It does not really matter to them if they'd have to get loans so as long as they could get the latest models.

This occurrence is due to the fact that cellular phones are considered to be a symbol of one's social status. In the eyes of society, the more cutting-edge your mobile phone is the higher your social status. But according to my brain, cell phones do not really denote anything about your social status. Many freakishly rich people tend to enjoy the company of their mobile phones whose models trace back to 5 years ago. They do so because though it is not of much worth anymore it is still able to do its intended function and that is to allow communication. What's really funny is that there are those who would steal to buy a cell phone model which would eventually be outdated in a couple of weeks.

To this day, new ideas spring out of people's brains. Ideas on how to make cell phones more powerful and marketable. We must admit that these mobile gadgets have really been the talk of the town for quite some time now, and we should be prepared because they're sure to make more fuss in the coming days. The human drive to obtain these innovations will be only getting stronger every time something new comes up but we should remember that we should always consider the difference between what we need and what we want. Cell phones are a necessity but to commit an unforgivable mistake to get one is just plain stupid.
