What Is It & How Is Oral Sex Performed?
Oral sex refers to all sexual activities that entail the use of a person's mouth. This may include the person's teeth, throat, and tongue to stimulate the partner's genitalia. Cunnilingus is a type performed on a woman whereas fellatio is the type that is performed on a man. Analingus, a not so common type, is the type that involves the stimulation of an individual's anus with the use of the mouth.
This type of sexual activity is performed in both homosexual and heterosexual relationships. For heterosexual relationships, it may be chosen as an alternative to engaging in intercourse. Most couples perform oral when the female partner is pregnant since having intercourse may become rather uncomfortable. Some couples also engage in the activity because they consider it to be very pleasurable.
It may also serve as a form of contraception. Although effective in preventing any unwanted pregnancies, engaging in this activity does not prevent the transfer of sexually transmitted diseases or STDs. There are some sexually transmitted diseases that are not as easily spread through oral sex.
People usually engage in it as a form of foreplay before engaging in intercourse. Some may also choose to do this after intercourse; while some simply do it for the sake of engaging in the exciting sexual activity. Some people though, may not consider it a form of intercourse. Similar to mutual masturbation and other methods of outercourse, some individuals do not see this type of sex as sex at all since it does not involve penetration. Some people may even view it as a way of experiencing pleasure brought about by sex prior to losing his or her virginity.
Oral sex is a way to provide and give more pleasure to your partner. Couples who engage in this activity may choose to either spit or swallow ejaculatory fluids. Doing either can provide different types of sexual stimulation, as with keeping eye contact during the act of receiving or giving oral stimulation.
There are several variants. Some of the more popular positions are face sitting and the sixty nine position. Facesitting involves one partner sitting on top of the other partner's face and pushing his or her genitals into it. The 'sixty-nine' position is also a popular variant of oral sex and involves both partners performing and receiving oral sex at the same time. Some people may also engage in types of oral sex known as autofellatio and autocunnilingus. Although very uncommon, these positions involve the person performing oral on him or herself.
