Why You Need Dog Pillows
"Every man needs his bed and every dog needs his pillow" could be an urban saying nowadays. As you don't like sleeping on the floor, the same goes for your dog and you can not leave your companion to sleep on something so uncomfortable and cold! Sure, sometimes you would like him to sleep in your bed because of his loving energy, but he, like you, needs a place of his own.
When I got my companion Puffy, I wanted to keep him by my side all the time and spent some nights with him because he was crying. I felt that he needed me and I should protect him and so it became a custom to let him sleep at my foot side. I saw him feel protected so I thought this is the best way to care for him and raise him. But he started to grow - he is a golden retriever - and our habit became uncomfortable more for me than for him. He didn't realize his size and was just glad to sleep on my bed.
I had to do something so that I could sleep and also make Puffy comfortable in another sleeping arrangement. As usual the main way to find a solution was the Internet and the faithful pet owners' forum. People there made me understand that it is not good for Puffy to sleep with me because he will become too attached to me and will suffer a lot when I will leave for more than a day for some reason. He should have a sleeping place of his own just like where he eats and plays.
All sorts of on-line stores sites bombarded me when I Googled "dog pillows" and I found shopping world I haven't yet known (amazing). You can choose from hundreds of colors and shapes to best fit your pooch. And if you're stuck between two, you can take more than one to replace the old ones - believe me they get ripped very quickly! There was one very cute that I couldn't resist: a slipper shaped pillow that Puffy found as much fun as I did. He can cuddle in it and also play with the dog pillow, dragging it all over the house, where he finds the best place to take a nap.
I know it's hard to let go a little from your "baby" but always try to think about his wellbeing more than your feelings! This means that you really need to buy him a dog pillow and get him used to it.
