All thru history dogs, cats and pets in general have proven to be valuable additions to the families of millions of people. Even kings and queens have seen the value of a faithful companion to ease the tensions of everyday life at court. Pets have proven their loyalty and devotion to their masters time and time again and are a part of many memories we take with us through the rest of our lives. It is because of this speical relationship with our pets that they become just like another child in our household and are treated as such by many pet owners. One of the ways in which we show concern for our pets, especially with the really popular small breeds, is clothing them.

Luxury dog apparel and jewelry has become the rage all over the world. From cool hoodies for casual wear, to tuxedo and wedding dresses for the most formal events. Hoodies, t-shirts, dresses, jackets, rain coats...you name it, there is an outfit made for every pet and there is an outfit on the internet for every occasion you can possibly think of. Jewelry is a way of dressing up the clothes with hair pins and shiny collars along with necklaces and tiaras.

With all this hoopla about designer clothes and jewelry, there is a practical side to buying your dog clothes. Smaller breeds are usually in need of a little extra warmth as they don't have as much body heat as the larger breeds. Clothes for your pet, especially up in the colder northern states, are a must. Many people think that a dog or cats fur is enough to keep them warm, but that's simply not true. Even large dogs can use a hoodie or two in the winter for added protection against the elements. We live in south Texas and own a darling maltese breed dog with lots of fur, but in the winter months our little pal is always cold. We usually have to keep some sort of hoodie or t-shirt on him to keep him from shivering. The Yorkie breed is especially cold natured as well and will often be seen shivering even when the temperature seems totally fine to humans.

Measuring your pet for the proper fit is very important. If the clothes are to small it will rub in certain spots on his or her fur and cause sore spots. Measure around the neck first, then the length of the back from neck to tail. Next is the chest measurement. Start just behind the neck and go all the way around the chest just behind the front legs. Some other measurments that may make a difference in fit is around the hind leg at the girth, around the forepaw and the girth, length of the hind legs, and the length of the front legs. These numbers must then be compared with the sizing chart of the place you are buying the clothes from and a decision on which size can be made much easier than just guessing at it.

So whether you live in a cold climate and need added protection against the elements or you just like the looks of your precious little pal with a harley jacket on, dog clothes are here to stay and they are growing in popularity as we speak. And, jewelry to accent the clothes or just all by themselves is a great addition to your dogs' appearance. Bottom line is have fun with your pet!! Enjoy the love and companionship they give you and try to give them something in return.
