It doesn't matter if it is summer or winter, what does matter is that your house is clean of fleas. Most of the fleas don't "just die" when winter comes. Fleas live in houses and even if they do not bite anyone during winter – they just run away and hide in corners. Unless your house has recently been subjected to termite poison, chances are that there are still fleas – even if no one seems to have them.

Although Black Death has been away for a century (seven centuries if we count only REAL pandemics), fleas are still dangerous and can carry a lot of diseases. It is wise to get rid of the pesky parasites as soon as possible. This is called flea control, and flea control is done in many different ways. In the last outbursts of Black Death, people chewed menthol pastilles and mints so the fleas get scared away (menthol is lethal to fleas), but you have to admit it – giving mints or pastilles to an animal can be quite of a challenge! Thankfully, there are a lot of various countermeasures against fleas.

As for the countermeasures, they are easy. You can get flea control for most pets for free. Well, almost for free. You still have to pay for the soap and water. Bathe your pet(s) in soap water (really hard for cats, but on the other hand, it is also fun in a way *grins), or, if your pet spends a lot of time outside, cover their favorite resting places with soap and water. However, a catch to this exists. There will be tick eggs that have yet to hatch… and they're utterly annoying.

That's why there are more effective alternatives, but keep in mind that they can cost you up to… twenty bucks. If you have already cleaned your pets and don't want yourself suddenly finding your house infested with them bastardly parasites, get an IGR – an Insect Growth Inhibitor. Brands such as FleaTrol and Precor are good. If the fleas are still alive – even better… ugh, wait I just realized what I just said. As the safer alternative of flea control, choose lemon peel extracts such as limonene or linalool. Or for an alternative that will have an astonishing result but could be potentially bad to your pet – choose flea collars that emit poisonous chemicals on them.

Getting rid of the pesky critters so they won’t bite you is easy, but for the results to last, you have to clean your house in a regular fashion. Most of the creatures will die from the first sweep, but if they don't, just give them some more heat and they most certainly will. The problem here is with longevity of the sweep, but for that to last longer you should check your cat for fleas regularly. After a few cleans and after a few months, when you know that there are no more annoying insects in your house, you’ll be a lot happier that you've done those things to prevent them from sucking your blood.

Dog Kennels - Use Them Wisely

Dog kennels are definitely a great way to provide safety and security for your pet. However, they should never be considered as their permanent living quarters.

Keeping an energetic animal in a confined space for prolonged periods of time without enough exercise will surely make them unhealthy. Without proper exercise you will not only end up with an obese pet, but it will also restrict the growth and development of muscle and might lead to serious health issues affecting their cardiovascular and kidney functions and even their movement and digestion.

Another drawback is that, by keeping more than one dog in an enclosed space for long periods, you increase the chances of a highly contagious condition called kennel cough which can spread to any animal that comes in contact with the affected dog if proper treatment is not given.

On the other hand, dog kennels are excellent means of keeping your dog in comfort and safety if they are used wisely by following a few easy but essential guidelines. Make sure that the kennel is kept clean and sanitized at all times. The size of the kennel will depend on the size and number of dogs you plan to house in the kennel. A kennel should provide sufficient and comfortable space for your pet(s) to move about freely.

There are numerous types of kennels that come in different shapes and styles including outdoor and indoor kennels. With indoor kennels it is important to provide proper ventilation and of course to keep it clean to avoid the growth of bacteria. Indoor kennel are suitable only for the smaller breeds and the outdoor kennels are mostly used to house larger breeds.

Dog kennels are perfect to keep your pet safe at night, particularly when they are very young as kennels not only help to provide a warm place for them to curl up, they also help to minimise any 'accidents' at night when they tend to run all around the house while others are sleeping.

Whether the dog kennel is of the indoor or the outdoor type or even if they are large and comfortable, one should strive to keep their pet inside them only when needed. It is important to take them out frequently and regularly for long walks and to let them run free if you want a healthy and well behaved dog.

Retail Stores Should Stock Pet Greeting Cards

Despite the general chaos in the economy there are still plenty of people with spending money and they still love to shop. The trend is for smaller ticket items; the shopping procedure is carried out by force of habit as usual but people would rather not spend a whole lot at once. It’s a perfect atmosphere for stores to move artistic gifts that are cute and amusing. The satisfaction of finding something good at a low price appeals to shoppers who can surprise a friend or relative with a great gift and fulfill the urge to buy things in their spare time.

The family pet is sometimes the center of attention to both children and parents. Many people become familiar with the pets of friends or family. Walking the dog can lead to meetings in parks with other dog lovers. In-laws and other family members tend to keep pets to conform to the group so they don’t get left out of discussions about the idiosyncrasies of dogs or cats. Good-humored jokes about the pets takes on an important role in personal relationships: it saves someone else from becoming the butt of the jokes. Taking it one step further, when a friend buys a dog to match your ownership of a dog, you can send a congratulatory card of good wishes for the new family member.

Other occasions are celebrated when people exchange cards and these same occasions are marked on behalf of the pet. A cat has no idea that it’s his birthday but the owner might be meticulous enough to celebrate the day just for something to do, and will go out and buy a card with a cat cartoon to stick on the fridge for the amusement of the wife and kids. It may seem strange, but it’s the symbolism of the gesture and the act of shopping that satisfies the consumer when there are not many things you can buy that are under five dollars and are still quality gifts.

There are even pet sympathy cards to express grief at the inevitable loss of a beloved pet. Just like other sad events, people like to come together and reminisce. A niche company called Three Way Pet Card Designs manufactures these along with pet anniversary cards, congratulations cards for the acquisition of a new pet, and everything you could imagine – all drawn by hand by a graphic artist rather than printed up generically. All the messages are unique and written by a professional writer.

One might think such cards would be expensive as niche items typically are, but in fact retail stores can make quite a markup since the wholesale price works out to a dollar fifty each while the retail price is only three dollars, making them easy to sell and profitable at the same time. Retailers don’t have to be pet stores necessarily – any boutique or corner store could conceivably be able to find shoppers to buy such items. As store owners know, displaying a product effectively results in more sales. This is where the card rack comes in. A greeting card rack takes up very little space and capitalizes on impulse purchases on the way to the cash register when people see a pet card display rack and these are supplied to the retail store by the pet greeting card manufacturer.

Almost everybody has a pet or knows somebody with one. What do you get for people that seem to have everything? You can get them something thoughtful to show that you’re thinking of them. People appreciate the effort of dropping a card in the mail, especially if they don’t get to see you often. If your mother’s dog is sick she’ll be touched deeply if she receives a get-well pet card. She’ll think “What a silly thing to spend money on!” with a chuckle and possibly get on the phone immediately to tell someone about it. She will also cherish the card forever; that’s just the way mothers are.

Dogs and cats are the most popular pets nowadays, with retail stores charging between one thousand and three thousand dollars at the cash register for pure-bred dogs. There are shelters to adopt dogs and you may not care if the dog is a mix-breed, but in all cases the pets are an investment in cost and time. They must be fed, taken to the vet, given shots, and in the case of dogs, washed or groomed. For this, we human owners get companionship and often some comic relief. There are basic questions involved when deciding on a pet and most of this article will deal with dogs. Cats are known for being low-maintenance pets: they clean themselves, dutifully do their business in the litter box, and they spend 80% of the day sleeping. The real activity in a household centers around the family dog.

Each breed has its own activity level, from the laid-back hound dog to very active breeds like the Jack Russell Terrier or the Pomeranian. Dogs are loyal to their owners, and they expect a fair amount of playtime with the family. They have emotions of their own and the training and psychology of the dog’s role should reflect this. They have temperaments common to the breed, but also may have traits that are individual. Higher mammals develop personalities to aid in survival; they have to establish a presence in the ranking of the food chain.

There are important points to consider when acquiring a dog. What size dog is appropriate for the space do you have? How much exercise can you give the dog? Where will the dog live? How much experience do you have with dogs? What do you plan to do with the dog? Remember that they were bred to fulfill certain roles such as herding, hunting, guarding, or killing rats. If your garden is very important to you, you might not want to get a terrier; almost all of them will dig. Dalmatians, pointers, and retrievers need hours of hard exercise – they were meant to go for miles and miles without tiring and they need to run.

North America’s most popular dog breed is the Golden Retriever. They have a sunny disposition, they love children, and they’re loyal and affectionate. Golden Retrievers are widely used as guide dogs for the blind. They were originally used as a soft-mouthed retriever for wild game hunting. They were developed in the 1800s in Britain, a mix of various sporting breeds – the wavy-coated Retriever, the yellow Tweed Water Spaniel, Irish Setter and the Bloodhound (to sharpen the breed’s scenting skills). The Golden Retriever was recognized as a pure breed by the English Kennel Club in 1913. To accommodate the needs of this treasured family pet, they should be kept in homes with a large yard or a country home with lots of room for outdoor exercise.

Boxers and Bulldogs are next in popularity. They are solid dogs, forty to fifty pounds in weight. Even though they love exercise, they can exist well as apartment pets; they’re extremely loving and playful, as are Chihuahuas, the smallest of breeds, weighing in at two to four pounds fully grown. They don’t require a lot of space and are ideal companions for adults in apartments and families with older children who can appreciate the fragility of the tiny Chihuahua. They come in long and short coat varieties, so they should be clad in sweater and booties when going for walks in cold temperatures.

Number five in popularity is the Maltese, one of the first of the purebreds to be exhibited at dog shows in North America. The Maltese dog is affectionate, intelligent and sturdy, and loves to romp and play - especially with children. This tiny breed measures up to 10 inches at the shoulder and they weigh up to seven pounds maximum. The Maltese dog has a gorgeous, long, pure-white, silky coat that hangs straight to the ground from a center part running from nose to tip of tail. Its expressive dark eyes and dark nose, lips and eye rims enhance the Maltese dog's exquisite face. Grooming requirements for the Maltese are fairly intensive - the coat needs daily brushing to stay tangle-free and frequent bathing to keep it sparkling white, even if you choose to give it a shorter 'pet' trim. The Maltese dog is a great choice for elderly or disabled people, since its exercise needs are minimal. A similar situation exists in the Shih Tzu breed, good for city-dwellers – loving and playful. They also need frequents brushing.

One breed you don’t want in an apartment is the Labrador Retriever, the seventh most popular pet dog breed. They love the outdoors, especially the water…if you throw something in a pond or lake, they’ll gladly jump in and fetch it. If you leave the door open when you’re in the bath you may end up with a large bathing partner. They’re easy to train and have a high energy level, so they’re best for suburban or country homes.

Next is the Pug, a playful, mischievous, and intelligent companion who loves attention. Dogs are social animals, so you’ll find that all of them crave attention and play. The pug is a favorite breed of royalty since the sixteenth century. They were at first considered a breed from Holland but many breeds like Pugs, Chihuahuas, and Shih Tzus are now thought to originate in China. Pugs are great for apartments, as their exercise needs are minimal. They do tend to get overweight, so a controlled diet is a good idea.

The Pomeranian is the next most popular dog breed. They make good apartment dogs, and you couldn’t have a better watchdog. They have intense curiosity and keen senses; they’ll be glad to warn the owner of any noise near or far by going on alert and barking incessantly. They seek approval and attention and with their high metabolisms they can pack away the food without gaining an ounce.

Number ten in popularity is the Yorkshire Terrier, or “Yorkie”. It’s small, highly energetic, and clever. The Yorkie seems unaware of its small size – they are brave and eager for adventure, and can be aggressive towards strange dogs and small animals. The human must establish pack leadership to keep the Yorkie from taking over the house because the dog can become yappy, doing his best to tell you what HE wants YOU to do. As a cute dog, owners might let them get away with outrageous behavior that no dog should display. They need a lot of human attention and should be given proper boundaries. They are trainable, but can be difficult to housebreak. The Yorkie is an excellent watchdog. Owners should learn to give them some gentle leadership.

Domestic dogs are universally good-natured unless humans cause them to act in another fashion, and they want and deserve love. When looking for a family pet, research the different types of dogs so that when you meet the dog in person, you’ll have a better idea of some general traits that will match your family’s situation and needs. It’s fair to everybody involved, especially the pet who is dependant on you as a loving owner.

Marketing Strategy for Pet Greeting Cards

Pets are no longer considered animals but are increasingly considered a member of the family. Accordingly pet owners are now buying greeting cards addressed to a dog or cat in the family or to send to a friend’s pet. This trend is likely to increase, giving an opportunity for small companies and graphic artists to cater to this market. It’s fairly new territory as the buying public is only now getting into the habit of thinking out this purchase ahead of time, whereas pet cards started out as a quirky impulse buy – a novelty item that is making the transition to the mainstream. The challenge for small business owners is using forecasting efforts to market effectively.

A small business maximizes profits by using awareness of the market to avoid making mistakes in manufacturing levels that could leave too much product inventory on hand or too little to satisfy a sudden increase in orders. Accurate marketing numbers can be used to observe trends and estimate how much flexibility will be required to deal with situations that can become a crisis in a small business. If owners assume that the physical paper greeting card market will never be touched by competitors who offer eCards it may be wise to scan several published surveys to determine the extent of penetration by the digital competitor, for there might be cause to either add the product or simply advertise where they do to sway buyers over to your side. Good indicators can be gleaned by observing Google Adwords placed by competitors in both paper and eCards.

Association websites by definition must be positive in theme and so they throw around optimistic numbers in rosy, self-congratulatory messages to members. The industry involved wants to appear as an expanding, sensational, and dynamic sector to boost morale, but some of the figures can cause a double-take. For instance the GCA (Greeting Card Association) states that “the average person receives more than 20 cards per year, about one-third of which are birthday cards”. That bit of demographic information requires the average person to have over 6.06 birthdays per year. How many marketing dollars should be set aside for birthday cards? How many can you expect to sell? Now all the GCA numbers are suspect.

Their contention is that U.S. consumers purchase approximately 7 billion greeting cards each year, generating nearly $7.5 billion in retail sales. You don’t need a calculator to draw the conclusion that the average retail card costs $1.50 which is absurd. The Association further states that the price of greeting cards is anywhere from fifty cents to ten dollars. There is no such thing as a fifty-cent greeting card in a retail store, not even in the cheapest dollar stores. They list percentages of sales for different occasions – seasonal and everyday – things like birthday, Christmas, get well, anniversary, friendship, sympathy, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and Easter cards. There is no mention of wedding cards. This may indicate that all the percentages are inaccurate.

Fortunately the company specializing in pet greeting cards won’t have to calculate any wedding card manufacturing figures, but many other occasions are in demand by pet owners. Therefore an accurate breakdown can help guide the marketing and production decisions. Selling online in any market hasn’t reached its full potential as of 2009 but must be put into place for this particular product. Large companies are able to send sales reps to retail chains that occupy the top of the food chain while setting a price standard that is favorable to small owners and custom suppliers. Lower overhead allows for competitive prices for equal quality and will appeal to smaller independent stores, groomers, kennels, and veterinarians.

Promoting sales by phone and e-mail is the most cost-effective way to move small orders. A decision must be made regarding your dealings with retailers; product can be paid upon order or placed on consignment. Instinct would dictate that consignment would be more attractive to the outlets, but consignment involves a crimp in cash flow and extra work to monitor in terms of managing inventory, deliveries, invoicing, and receivables. There’s an upside to the extra work however: trends can be spotted on which items are selling in each type of location. This will give you true figures and allow for replacement of stock with the more saleable items. Even statistics from fifteen or twenty retail shops will give a fix on the more popular card types.

Some survey numbers are published be the American Pet Products Association (APPA) in regards to pet ownership. The man in the street might guess that dogs are more popular than cats. In fact there are more cats (77.7 million) kept as pets in the U.S. than dogs (65 million) and the most plentiful pet is the fish at 185 million. The fish can be eliminated as greeting card recipients, and the cat and dog numbers can’t be indicators of sales because it’s possible that dogs may be the centers of attention within families with children. The more elite pet group will receive the most cards. The answer is the family dog. Cats are seen as low-maintenance, low-cost pets who are good for apartments but they don’t offer the loyalty and playfulness that a dog might. The data to indicate this is from food costs. More money is spent on dogs, and this trend should apply universally to luxury items like toys and greeting cards.

Concentrating on dogs first and cats second would be the logical order of priority. Different types of cards can be designed that will create a need, for instance people breeding dogs may see a joke line of wedding cards and decide to buy a few to send to clients who are involved in bringing the suitors around for breeding. A new product may appear in this way that can be offered to other customers in that industry. It may be worthwhile to explore the equestrian market to determine if people would send cards to commemorate each other’s expensive horses. It’s a creative business to design cards, and there enough occasions and eager buyers to also be creative in your marketing.

Pet Lovers Even Send Greeting Cards

It could be said that consumerism has gone too far when you start mailing out birthday cards to your sister-in-law’s dog or a message of sympathy to a friend who has just lost a pet, but it’s more lasting and thoughtful than a quick eCard that’s looked at once and deleted. It’s the thought that counts, and if there’s a Christmas card on the tree addressed to the family dog it’s really for the kids and the people who like to include everybody in the good time. Greeting cards are fun for the sender, even though the pet can’t appreciate the artwork and clever messages that the humans enjoy on their behalf.

It makes quite an impression that someone went out of their way to pay homage to your pet by shopping for a novelty item like a congratulatory card for acquiring a new puppy or other family companion from the pet store. Spending a lot of time with animals has been proven to improve a person’s health and longevity; there’s something about caring for another that makes people feel happy and fulfilled. Domestic animals are helpless loving creatures with a childlike innocence and so they provide a relief from the complex and often confusing day-to-day world of human existence.

Playful pets like dogs and cats are the most popular since it’s hard to interact with fish, birds, or hamsters with their short attention spans. Retail stores charge upwards of two thousand dollars for a quality family dog and people are eager and willing to pay once a connection is made at the store. The new owners will license it, feed it, take it for walks clean up after it, and bring it in for medical care. The pet becomes an investment in time, labor, money, and emotion. The pet truly is a family member and once adopted and cared for, the cat or dog is showered with love and attention. It’s been said that some people treat their pets better than humans. Every once a while a newspaper story will tell of an eccentric rich person leaving everything to the cat, which leaves relatives contesting the will and questioning the sanity of the deceased.

The pet sympathy card makes a lot of sense; very often your friend or relative and the children involved will be extremely distraught over the loss of a beloved pet. That’s when the card really is for the human owner’s solace and the message shows that you care and the condolences are truly genuine. People mourn for weeks and having that card nearby assures them that others care about the loss.

Reinforcing friendships and family ties is the role of the greeting card. If you haven’t seen someone in a while and you get a card celebrating the adoption of a new pet, it shows that the word has gotten around about the event. This makes the individual feel like others are thinking about him or her, and there’s a reason to phone and thank them for being so thoughtful.

Even people who are sociable and popular can feel loneliness and isolation in their private moments; this is where a pet can be such a great comfort. The cat doesn’t have to sort through complicated emotions and the effects of the cruel outside world. A warm lap is all they ask and the calm purring relaxes the owner and makes the surroundings much more pleasant.

A digital eCard defeats the purpose of the message. It’s well-known that they can be obtained online for free, so the time and money gesture is missing and the card appears to be more of an afterthought than a genuine emotional effort. The physical card arrives in the mail; it has an envelope and stamp showing that it was important enough to be hand-delivered to your home. It comes as a surprise as you open it and it can be the highlight of the day as you run to the phone to thank the giver.

Like all novelty items, you can order pet greeting cards from websites at low cost compared to cards found in retail stores. Christmas is a time when it’s difficult to come up with new gift ideas, so it’s a good idea to stock up on pet cards for all the pet owners on your gift list. Mixed box sets are available so that you can have cards for all occasions for the pet lovers in your life. After all, the gift is in the giving.

Persians are the most popular breed during the decades.

Persian cats are the most numerous group on the exhibitions and the constant leaders in every year rates of CFA ( American Association of Cat Lovers ), and they are the most famous and favourite in Europe.

Persians have calm and subdueing temper. Persian is the ideal breed, making an impression of affable, peaceful and loyal companion. His voice is rarely heard. Persians calmly and emphatically ask to pay your attention on them: they sit near you and stare into your eyes, where their devotion is reflected. They will certainly jump on your knees to nap, curled up on them, or tenderly touch your face with their wet nose. Some of Persians like to sit on their owner's shoulder and, hugging him, loud singing their song. At cold nights they can be your hot-water bottle in a bed.

It is very comfortable and pleasantly to keep Persians in the house. Persians create the atmosphere of rest, but in the same time they will accompany you from room to room for you to keep an eye on them only. They are playful and funny just as other cat breeds. But in contrast to other cats they are not afraid of children and never hurt even the most persistant infant.

When people choose a kitten they mostly want a pussy-cat, thinking that a girl will be more tender and full of love. To their mind tomcat is more agressive and has an inclination for sabotage. But such behaviour is not typical for Persian cats. Actually, Persian cat is more tender than a females. Pussy-cats are always independent and they are always busy with other things to communicate with the owner. Persian kittens are impressive, lazy, but for all that they are curious and cheerful. Adult Persian enjoys even to watch the fall of water drops from a tap or following the paper mouse what you draw for the thread.

Easy and sociable character of Persians in any age lets them live in harmony with every household and any domestic animals. Cats stay playful for a long time and bring to their owner a pleasure during many years. Amusing, funny, peaceful and tender Persian is the most ideal domestic animal. However, Persians require for everyday grooming to save their wonderful coat. For busy people, those who love sweet faces of Persians, but don't have time for everyday care, exotics are the real dream. They are true Persians with one exception: coat has fat, short, thick, chik texture. Exotic coat is unique in this breed and gives them soft, rounded, plush look. Their wonderful hair requires much less care then Persian's one and will never remind twisted yarn or valenki. Because of the simpliest grooming exotics are sometimes tenderly called 'Persian for lazy'.
