What Document Freeze Drying Does Not Do
A lot of people I have come into have damaged documents that need some document freeze drying. While document freeze drying can pretty much salvage a document from the hazards brought by water and fire, people are still disappointed when I tell them that the process of document freeze drying will not bring their documents back to the way it was before damage took place.
Document freeze drying can help restore documents and can certainly save them. In this process, moisture is sucked out from the documents by freezing it to -40 Celsius and then slowly warming them back up to room temperature once the moisture is gone. Unfortunately, if the ink is smeared and unreadable, it cannot be fixed. Document freeze drying professionals can encase your dried documents in plastic for further protection and they can photocopy wet documents to save as much of the information possible. However, they are not miracle workers so expect slight signs of damage after.
That is not to say documents cannot be restored. It can be. But restoration is a different process from document freeze drying. Customers often get confused between restoration and freeze drying. Freeze drying dries your documents in a timely, safe manner. It is quite understandable that some of these documents need to remain confidential and a good document freeze drying company should guarantee that they will do so.
Most document freeze drying companies have an undisclosed safety room that only a few employees have access to and they store your confidential material there after the process. Each of the employees understands the importance of keeping their word and always keeps what they see to themselves. It is important to understand as well that they do not rifle through your papers. However, they do need to look at the documents to determine what needs to be done in each specific case.
Document freeze drying takes time. It should be brought immediately to a document freeze drying professional so as not to incur more damage. Documents should be brought to within 48 hours, much better if it will be brought to a specialist in less than 24 hours. Time is of the essence to begin the process.
You can also choose to freeze dry each item individually or freeze dry in bulk items. In addition to your documents, you can also have your books, your audio tapes, and a lot of other things freeze dried. If your damaged documents are stuck to the top of your leather briefcase, that can undergo document freeze drying can as well.
Keep in mind that there are many different companies available that specialize in document freeze drying and you need to pick one that will work for you. Consider the element that damaged your document, such as water or fire, and hire a document freeze drying company that specializes on that. Call each one you are thinking about and find out what their process is. You need to be assured there are no vacuum leaks, otherwise, you will pay a lot of money for a process that is not done correctly.
