Are Moving Pods More Convenient Than Hiring a Moving Company?
Yes, I think so. If you are looking to move in the near future and are contemplating whether to hire a moving company, or if you should save a few bucks and just order a POD system and do the work yourself really depends on your schedule.
If you're not sure what a Pod system is it's just a portable on-demand storage container system that gets dropped off where ever you need it to be. When you are ready to relocate the container the company picks up the container and relocates it practically anywhere you want it to go to.
The convenience of using a POD system simply depends on your schedule and time constraints. This is the number one factor you should consider. Not everyone has that luxury. With this system you are free to pack your personal items at your own pace that's the beauty of this system which is kind of nice.
I knew well in advance that we had to move and for packing an apartment this worked out great. This gave us time to go through stuff we had in storage and also this system gave us time to pack and move things out of the apartment that we weren't using at the time and leaving the kitchen items last.
Now the difference for us in deciding what to do was not having to drive a moving truck around town and having to stick to the companies schedule on when the truck had to be returned. We didn't have a whole lot to pack and move basically three rooms of stuff.
Another nice feature to the POD system is that we got to keep the key so we had access to the container whenever we needed to get to it and for added convenience the storage container is always at ground level. This is perfect for when we had to move larger items like the couch, entertainment system and washer and dryer. We didn't need to constantly go up and down on the fork lift.
You typically have about a month before the company starts to charge you extra for having the container in your possession. Moving companies keep you on a tight leash as to when they need their truck back. You generally have about two to three days and if you go over the allotted time you start to incur late fees.
Not to mention the added stress you are put under to get everything packed and moved just to get that truck back to the rental place. You don't have the mileage matter to deal with either. This system worked well for us this time because we had the extra time and were in no hurry to have to relocate.
