3 Simple Techniques For Water Removal And Extraction
Are you worried about the damage that your leaky roof, your broken pipe or your overflowing tank may cause? Are you unsure about how to go about removing and extracting water? Are you troubled with how expensive it would be to hire professional services for water removal? Well, fear not. There are certain things which you can do on your own at home for water removal and water extraction.
Three of the simplest and cheapest ways for carrying out small water damage repairs are air drying, freeze drying and dehumidification.
What is air drying?
The simplest of all methods is air drying. Air drying is nothing but drying your belongings under the sun and in the air. This oldest and the most trusted method is an effective way of water removal. It will not only dry out your personal possessions but also save them from further water damage.
Use a flat surface for air drying. Lay down all the wet items side-by-side. Let mattresses and cushions be kept in a tilted way so that both the sides are equally exposed to the sun and the air.
Water stains can cause damage to your carpets, curtains and upholstery and make them look worn out. Wash them properly with water and then allow them to dry under the sun and in the air.
However, do not put books and photographs in the sun. They are sure to get damaged. Instead keep them inside where they can dry in the air.
Make sure that the air gets properly circulated. If possible use a fan for this. This will help in reducing the moisture and humidity which can slow down the process of air drying.
What is freeze drying?
Freeze drying is usually effective for things which cannot be air-dried. These include bound books, art work and family treasures.
In freeze drying, professionals often use industrial freezers for water removal. However, at home, a no-frost home freezer can prove to be as effective as those heavy industrial freezers.
For freeze drying to work, keep the freezer temperature below -10 degrees Fahrenheit. This will protect the items from losing their original shapes and sizes. Make sure that the items are spread out rather than kept one on top of the other.
Bear in mind that freeze drying is time-consuming and can take from weeks to months until complete water removal is achieved.
What is dehumidification?
Simply put, dehumidification involves removing humidity from inside the house. You do not need huge commercial dehumidifiers for this purpose. Simple things can help you remove the humidity from your house.
The simplest thing you can do is to let sunlight and air come inside the house. So open all your doors and windows. This will help in reducing the humidity.
Keep carpets and rugs outside since they tend to absorb excess moisture.
Use air vents and exhaust fans in the kitchen, bathrooms and all other areas which easily get water damaged.
Use air-conditioners. They will help control the temperature and the humidity in the house.
Water damage needs your immediate attention. If quick steps are not taken, it can lead to further damage inside your house and end up making living in the house unbearable. So use these three simple techniques for water removal and extraction and save your precious house.
