Rating: Not yet rated

Quality as defined by Merriam Webster: a degree of excellence; superiority in kind; a distinguishing attribute. To identify what makes a quality scrub, one must first examine scrubs as a whole. There are traditional two types of scrubs- unisex and nursing. Who wears which and what’s the difference? And what is a “quality scrub?”

Unisex scrubs are made to fit a man and a woman. These styles of scrubs are mostly worn by clinicians, MDs, PAs and NPs. Though there are countless others who wear them professionally, lab techs, respiratory techs, medical assistants and clerical employees. Licensed vocational nurses, licensed practical nurse, registered nurses and medical assistants typically wear nursing style scrubs. There is some cross over between the two styles though an unofficial dress code exists in medicine which mandates adherence to the “rules.” There are many companies who advertise quality scrubs but a quick Google search yields results with mixed messages. Most scrubs which are described as “quality scrubs” are also described as cheap or discount. How is that superior or excellent?

Quality scrubs should be differentiated from their low cost, cheap competitors. Quality scrubs have distinguishing characteristics such as high performance fabrics, utilizing Dri-release fabrics which absorb moisture from the skin and release it into the air faster than any other performance fabric or cotton, Dri-release keeps its shape and retains its color wash after wash, as well as resists pilling and wrinkling, Dri-release fabrics naturally repel annoying static cling. Quality scrubs have an ergonomic fit and provide added function as well.

How a scrub fits identifies it as quality or not. Quality scrubs have a more tailored, professional fit designed to fit a man or women. These scrubs have more shape in the pants which give them a more flattering appearance, added features like a gusseted crotch and an elastic waist. These features provide a better range of motion, greater comfort and a degree of excellence.

Truly quality scrubs utilize today’s technical advancements in fabric, in the medical environment you are expected to be sanitary and if your clothing is not treated properly or made of an inappropriate material, the chances of you harboring germs and other dangerous, perhaps infections matter on your clothing can be an unnecessary risk. Another hallmark of quality in today’s nursing scrubs is that they are designed to flatter the physique, women should have the option of wearing a scrub and lab coat meant to fit and flatter their body structure, men too should have well fit uniforms. Finally a quality scrub should overall enhance the medical professional’s shift, by giving them a feeling of confidence and self assuredness which all medical professional deserve.
