Bad breath is one of the major reasons that some people have a poor social life. You have to admit that it is difficult to keep up with a conversation if you are conscious about how people will react to your breath. It's even a lot harder for you if people find out that you do have this problem and they make sure to avoid a conversation with you. This does not necessarily happen just in your social life. It can also happen in the work place. It is important that you stop bad breath before it ruins your self-esteem even further.

What Causes It?

Most bad breath forms because of the bacteria that collect in your mouth from eating food and from not properly cleaning your mouth. It can also start from the stomach because of food that has not digested well. The odor can rise through the esophagus and out through your mouth. This can become quite major and even start to develop into halitosis, which is a chronic bad breath disorder that leaves ones breath smelling like rotten eggs. This is something that only dentists can prescribe medication for. But there are ways to stop bad breath before it gets worse.

How Do I Stop Bad Breath?

This condition is not a disease and it is something that can be stopped when you want it to. All you have to do is take the initiative to start working towards a healthier mouth and better oral care. The first thing you can start doing is to brush after each and every meal. It is recommended that you brush your teeth 3 times a day. Also, to stop bad breath, you should rinse your mouth with mouthwash.

Mouthwash kills a lot of the bacteria that collects in your mouth, particularly around your tongue where halitosis tends to start. However, you should not overuse mouthwash as this can prove to be damaging to your taste buds and also to your teeth if it is not used properly. Another way to stop bad breath is to stop eating food that is odor rich like onions and garlic.

Although these can be good for your overall health, try to cut down on eating these types of foods so that bad breath does not easily form in your mouth or stomach. Changing your diet will do wonders for your overall health. A little research on what foods cause halitosis should help you get a long way in the battle to stop bad breath.

Remember that if you want to improve your social life and your overall self- esteem, you have to be at your best. This means that you have to look your best and also smell your best when you are around people. Stop bad breath by getting to the root of the problem and make sure that you clean your mouth as often as you possibly can. Once you get rid of it and prevent halitosis from forming, you will notice a change when you are around people, while you are hanging out with friends or within the workplace.
