We commonly refer to the smoke that we see coming from the stacks of factories and plants as pollution. We call it pollution for a very good reason because that is exactly what it is. We have been polluting our air more and more over the past two hundred years and it has almost reached the point of no return if it has not already. There is very strong evidence that all of this smoky pollution that comes from industries and vehicles as well is seriously damaging our planet itself and all of the inhabitants that live here.

The question that is on the minds of all concerned people is what can we do about this situation we have gotten ourselves into? We can not seem to even contemplate returning to living the way we used to in past history where we have no cars, planes, and all of the products that the industries produce for us to use. It requires industry to make all of the things that we so much enjoy having. Things like plastics, glass, rubber, and metal objects of all kinds. The things that are made from these materials are computers, televisions, windows, satellite dishes, and a multitude of other items that would be impossible to name in a year.

Many of us are very worried tremendously about what all of the pollution that is affecting our ozone layer, our air, our water, our wildlife, and not to even mention our own selves. What is the real extent of damage that we have already allowed to happen? Is it reversible or is it too late already to change the outcome? These are such serious issues because even if things are not drastically damaged enough in our lifetime to cause us any real harm, what about the future generations? What will we be leaving our children and grandchildren to deal with?

We have also heard about some of the measures that our government and others are taking now to try and reduce the amounts of pollutants that are put into our air and water every year, but what about other countries that are not doing nearly as much as they should? Are we ourselves doing as much as we can on a personal level to help wherever we can?

These are issues that are not going away and the sooner we realize this and begin to take some real action to stop it the better the chances our future generations will have to enjoy the kind of beautiful planet we do instead of leaving them a wasteland that they might not even be able to survive on.
