This is the time of year that some kids really begin to slack off. You know, they feel like because the applications are done, the colleges won't care how their grades are or what classes they are taking.

This is wrong, wrong, WRONG!

First off, let me make you feel better. It's not just your kid, it's EVERYBODY'S kid. Ok, well almost everybody's kid...

Anyway, it's so bad that Charles Reed, the chancellor for the Cal State system called 12th grade 'the biggest wasteland in America'. And right now, even as I write this, 9 state governors are seeking to completely overhaul the senior year, saying that it's currently a "waste of the student's time and taxpayer's money".

Crazy, huh?

So, don't beat your kids too bad if they've got it.

BUT, and this is the big but, that does NOT give them an excuse to totally slack off and just basically coast until summer.

Here's why: (seniors, are you paying attention?)

First off, the slacking is SO bad that 1/2 of the colleges nationwide have to offer remediation (think: remedial). And I'm not talking about community colleges at all. I'm talking 4 year schools ONLY. Half of them!

What that means in plain English is that if you slack off and don't pay attention this year, no problem, you'll just have to re-take those classes once you get to college. Which means, it's longer until you graduate. Which, of course, costs your parents more money and delays you getting out into the real world and making serious money of your own.

Oh yeah, and that's IF you get in in the first place.

Here's what I mean:

If you are applying to any sort of competitive school, meaning pretty much anything other than a community college, they WILL be looking at what classes you are taking your senior year.

And they WILL notice if you went from challenging yourself by taking, say, 6 academic classes your junior year, and now you're only taking 4 classes and they are all electives. And that WILL affect their decision.

Right here, this can be the difference between getting into your 1st choice...and your last.

...Or not getting in at all.

Now, on the same subject, once and for all, YES! YOUR SENIOR YEAR GRADES DO COUNT.

A LOT!

Got it?

Here's what happens: If you are borderline for getting in to a college, they will call your high school to request the latest copy of your grades. Which, by the way, you gave them the right to do when you filled out your application. And if they notice that you are slipping, they probably will not admit you.

Or, they can withdraw your admission even after they've offered it.

I know, it's not 'fair', but I've warned you.

Story: We had a student last year who was offered admittance to SDSU….on one condition: she had to get a 'C' or better in chemistry her senior year.

Yep, you got it: she got a 'D +'.

So, her admission was revoked, and NOTHING we could do would get them to reinstate her. Not offering to retake the class over summer, not getting the teacher to re-do her grade.

Nothing.

Because, basically, they said that she had shown them that she didn't have the discipline to succeed in college. Goodbye SDSU, hello Cal State San Bernardino.

She already had her room and everything. She had even started hanging out with her future roommate.

Do NOT let this happen to you.

Now, I know you're burnt out and everything, but here's what you can do to finish strong:

1. Realize that senior does count...both the classes you take AND the grades you get in them. So, like I said above, finish strong. You're almost there, don't let up know.

2. Evaluate your schedule. Don't get so busy with work or friends or your boyfriend/girlfriend or whatever that you're using up all the time you used to spend studying. Stay focused on your academics.

3. All right, this is going to sound lame, but challenge yourself. Yeah, yeah, I know. You've been hearing this forever. Here's what I mean: Look for ways to push yourself. Form a study group if you have to, or try to find something for extra credit that's interesting (key word: interesting).

4. Get your dang internship already. I've beat this one to death, but it's vitally important which is why I keep sounding like a broken record on this. Remember, it will help you both in determining whether you're even going to school for the right thing or not, AND it will get your foot in the door for the future.

5. Lastly, you're so 'done' with high school? Cool. Go take a class or two at a community college. Make sure it's academic, but this will give you a chance to get your feet wet and see what college is like, as well as being able to walk the halls with adults, and not a bunch of 14 year old freshman.

I don't know if these will help you or not. Like I said, probably the MOST important thing is to realize that 'almost done' and 'done' are NOT the same thing.

In fact, that's a pretty good quote. You should probably write that one down.

Hang in there. You'll be in college soon enough.

A most devastating Press Release, revealing the excruciating practices of oppression and tyranny by the Tigray Abyssinian dictator Meles Zenawi, has been published a few days ago.

The international community has to demonstrate great concern and immediate reaction against the incredible Cemetery of Peoples – Abyssinia, a colonial relic state that has been fallaciously re-baptized 'Ethiopia'. The UNESCO should particularly set up a Facts Examining Committee, and further investigate the subject, as similar practices are absolutely impermissible in our world.

Either nations and ethnic groups, like the Oromos, the Ogadenis, the Sidamas, the Afars, the Anuak, the Kambaatas, the Shekachos, the Kaffas, the Agaws, the Wolayitas and others, or religious minorities, like the Abyssinian Amhara and Tigray Muslims, have been ceaselessly terrorized, monstrously dehumanized, and viciously deprived of all their political, social, economic, educational, religious and cultural rights.

The following Press Release, signed by Mr. Hunde Dhugassa, Ex-President of Jimma University Students and Ethiopian Higher Learning Institutions Students Union, elucidates the details of just one type of Abyssinian oppressive method, and only in one place, namely Jimma University.

Jimma University has a website; to read the texts posted there, one gets the idea that everything is human, academic, modern, and even innovative and pioneering! For your to make the striking comparison, and take note of the contrast between falsehood and reality, we republish an excerpt from the Jimma University website's home page text.

False Presentation of the Jimma University Realities

Jimma University is Ethiopia’s first innovative community oriented higher education institution committed to training of professionals in diverse fields of studies through community Based Educational strategies. The University is trying to meet societal expectations by producing competent, responsive and task-oriented professionals who are equipped with high quality problem solving skills. To achieve these goals, the university has desperately designed its programs integrating training, research and service.

http://www.ju.edu.et/index.php#

Truthful Presentation of the Jimma University Realities

Now, we publish the Press Release issued by the Jimma University Students and Ethiopian Higher Learning Institutions Students Union, leaving the conclusions to be drawn by every impartial and self-respected reader (http://www.oromoliberationfront.org/News/2007/University_jimmaa.htm?nclick_check=1).

Press Release issued by Mr. Hunde Dhugassa, Ex-President
Jimma University Students and Ethiopian Higher Learning Institutions Students Union

The trauma of the TPLF (Tigray People's Liberation Front)-led EPRDF government's cruel and inhuman treatment of citizens dates back to its inception to power when they killed, torched, imprisoned and dismantled families under the guise of OLF (Oromo liberation front) supporters.

Then, over the past 15 years, TPLF followed the shot to hit and different methods of torching strategy to civilians raising the question of the right to self-determination of Oromo people.

Almost all schools in Oromiya at all levels have experienced the bloody hand of TPLF government at different times and in various places every year.

On the occasion of the student manifestations against the decision to transfer the Oromiya capital from Finfinne {Addis Ababa} to Adama alone, they have killed and imprisoned thousands; a decision for which they regretted later for the political benefit of getting the favour of the Oromo people in the post 2005 election. From Addis Ababa University alone, more than 350 Oromo students were fired from school; leaving other socio-economic, political and human issues aside, the ban of Macha and Tulema Oromo NGO was quite indicative.

Oromo's in different universities of Ethiopia are facing serious challenges just for being Oromo; killings, imprisonment, torturing, graduation denial – and all happens without the observance of the slightest procedure of law. Total dismissal is also one of the commonly taken measures until the day I left the university in July 2007.

There is no academic spirit and freedom in the universities of Ethiopia for other oppressed nations either; these practices are implemented against all other students who belong to Ethiopia's oppressed nations.

Forced Membership to the Traitors' Group OPDO

Forced membership in the 'homemade' OPDO (Oromo People's Democratic organization) is a hot issue now in almost all universities, as the governmental authorities hope that like this they will reduce the support of OLF among the students' community.

Denial to forced membership in OPDO automatically results in accusation/tag of OLF member which triggers by itself its own pack of inhuman treatment that can end up in incommunicado and extrajudicial killings; the least that can happen is permanent impossibility of employment after the graduation. In a country like Ethiopia, this can be a most serious punishment indeed.

'Ethiopian' 'universities' plagued with Abyssinian Secret Services' Agents.

They implement an evil strategy of creating a conflict among students of different oppressed nations, hoping lack of unity in the Student Community will minimize the questions and the pressure the students pose on the undemocratic government in one voice.

In the time of my presidency, I have tried to expose the deceptive and cruel nature of this government to influential ambassadors and other Human Rights organizations in Finfinne (Addis Ababa) on different occasions. I have also strongly criticized different unlawful acts perpetrated by the government, acting in different ways, involving strongly phrased letters sent to various authorities.

In return, I received very devastating response messages, and warning at the gunpoint from securities more than three (3) times, even when I was in Jimma, Awasa and Gondor universities for official purpose.

After my graduation, although they had understood that I did not belong to any group, they fiercely persecuted me, under the double pretext, namely that I had published an Oromo Graduation Bulletin - 2007 (which was banned by the TPLF government) and that I had endorsed in my research paper the Right to Secession in Ethiopia, more specifically for the case of Oromiya. My paper exposed the realities that they want to deliberately hide, and that is why they considered both points as pertaining to OLF agenda, while the desire for secession is overwhelming among the Oromo people at large.

However, the policy they applied in my case targeted my contribution to Ethiopian in general and to Oromiya in particular. In fact, their desire is practically impossible to be materialized, as I will go for it, even if it is not in the same way.

After this, and following other practices of severe persecution perpetrated by the TPLF government against me, I decided to fight this government joining the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) in order to bring the democratic option to the people of Oromo and the other oppressed nations of Ethiopia; this was the natural consequence of the fact that I have been denied the right to work on the idea I believe for my own people, in my country.

I call upon the African Union, the European Union, as well as Human Right organizations and International Mass Media across the planet, to demonstrate a real concern for the harassment of Oromos and the other oppressed Nations of Ethiopia where are still located the headquarters of the African Union.

No matter how long the Night is, the Day will surely come!

College students are an important demographic and college trends can greatly effect the market. When certain activities or clubs become very popular, then anything a college student would need for that activity will sell superbly. The newest area with the most potential though continues to be technology and programs geared towards college trends. For an inventive mind there are many ways to make profit.

Certain activities are very popular with college students and I'm not just talking about beer pong. Current college trends show that students enjoy physical activities. Many enjoy ultimate Frisbee but there is another sport on the rise. Every college has seen a rise in the sport of LARPing. It is not usually confined to just people running around with fake swords. Vampire the Masquerade has long been a college LARP standard. Recent college trends however have moved towards the popular game of Humans vs. Zombies. There are many chapters of this game all throughout the nation. This game is often played 24/7 unlike other LARPs. What happens is that a small group of students choose to start as zombies, and the rest are the humans trying to survive. As the human population gets caught, the zombie population rises. It is much like an elaborate game of tag.

Although a person may not think of that a College Trends towards people playing tag can make any money, they are in fact wrong. There is actually much money to be made from these trends. The money to be made is in supplying the students with the tools they need to fight. The simplest tool that these students need is red bandanas. Depending on how you wear them reflects if you are a human or a zombie. Also, to shoot zombies the humans need guns, provided by NERF of course. College trends have shown students to be buying up NERF guns and ammo at an alarming rate.

A smart business minded person would find it profitable to set up a shop near campus to supply the kids with guns and more importantly ammo and clips for these NERF College Trends. Local shops are always low on streamline darts and clips for these guns. Also, Many of these guns have alterations that when preformed improve the quality of the guns by a lot. Another smart way to take advantage of this trend is to set up as the person providing this service. Online on shops like Etsy there are many people who do just that. Even just painting a gun in a better way can make a person thirty dollars. It only makes sense to provide for the market when there is a real demand.

The Many Things Learned at Boston College

Boston College is a great campus that any potential student should consider when making out his or her college applications. For one thing, they offer many different types of classes. This can be great for a student looking to study a specific subject or even a student just looking to diversify their curriculum. Another great thing about Boston College is that it has an excellent faculty teaching the students. That is of course a key point in any college. Aside from those reasons, there is also something to be said about attending college right in the middle of Boston. Life experiences are after all very valuable learning opportunities.

Boston College offers all sorts of different classes. Students can take advantage of the many different types of classes in several ways. For one thing, it helps any student to diversify their areas of knowledge. It lets people who are majoring in Biology do things like learn Spanish and Astronomy. There is something to be said about a person that knows a little bit about many different things. This is because one never knows when that information will come in handy. Any foreign language can come in handy at any point in a person’s life. A person may need to help give a stranger who only speaks Spanish directions somewhere for instance. Sometimes it is even very important professionally as well. If a biologist’s research leads to work in a Spanish speaking area then that possibly random class in college would be invaluable.

Boston College is not just about the types of classes. Boston College also has an impressive faculty teaching on campus. Many of the faculty is in fact Jesuits. The Jesuits have a rich history of striving to teach in the best manner possible. Boston College is dedicated to preserving the traditions of the Catholic Church while providing the highest education possible. There is a rich history of quality in education. Truly there can be no better place to go if one wants to study theology, but secular subjects are also a great thing to study there too.

The most important thing about Boston College is its location. A student learns more than just what is in his or her books when he or she goes off to college. Being in Boston can be an amazing experience. There are many other students also packed into the city. There are many opportunities for education in a social sense. Just going out shopping in the city a person can experience so much of life. A person also learns how to navigate a city, which can be a valuable skill to anyone looking to travel later in life or for work. Boston has so much to offer and is an amazing city full of history and culture.

Bryn Mawr College Rankings

Bryn Mawr College is no doubt one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation, but how does it rank amongst its competitors. There is some good news to go along with the beautiful surface of the campus. Bryn Mawr, being an all female student body, is definitely going to have some stereotypes that other colleges do not. First of all it seems that Bryn Mawr College Rankings are among the best as their academic achievements are among the highest in the country. Bryn Mawr College also has to recruit its study body despite its reputation that they have a dry campus, yet this is far from the truth. Sororities are big at Bryn Mawr College as it gives the chance for upper and lower classmen that ability to mingle. Actually during their rush week and bid, the upperclassmen of each house are teamed up with a lower classmen so that they can help advise them during the course of the year. This truly sets up strong bonds that are to last a lifetime here at Bryn Mawr College. Whether it is the cold winters or the long hours in the library that bonds these students together, there is definitely said for the bond of the Bryn Mawr martyr.

Nonetheless Bryn Mawr College rankings are always amongst the top. Whether it is because of the female only campus and the lack of male distraction, the academics at Bryn Mawr have always proven to be in the top of the country. However, this does not mean the women who attend Bryn Mawr College do not have a social life; actually there have a very busy one. Many of the women travel off to visit the men’s colleges of nearby Haverford or Swarthmore to mix and mingle among the opposite sex. Many of the women have boyfriends at other schools, some rely on the nearby men’s colleges, and others are even bi or homosexual. Just like any other College, Bryn Mawr College is going to have the same diversity issues.

Despite all of the stereotypes that a women’s college may have, Bryn Mawr College really stands out among the rest without resting on its laurels. The ever-popular community organizations, sororities, acapella groups, and university relations succumb the student body and much of their free time. The student government association is also another popular organization that gets a lot of involvement among the students as their lives are directly affected by the happenings of the organization. Overall Bryn Mawr College does its best to diffuse the typical stereotypes that are associated with being an all female college. Their academic rankings, sororities, organizations, and small campuses is really what gives the college true character. The unity between the upper and lower classman is what truly creates bonds and memories to last a lifetime.

This small College truly holds its own against larger more informal colleges that cannot offer half of what Bryn Mawr College can with less than half of the population

The University of Rajasthan is considered one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in Rajasthan. . It was established on 8th January, 1947, in the name of ‘University of Rajputana’ with the main objective of distributing knowledge and catering to the needs of the students of whole Rajasthan.

The solar industry has been growing at an exponential rate for some years now. Even with the current economic crisis, solar production received a greater amount of venture capitalists' investments than any other industry. Out of the $5.5 billion disbursed by venture capitalists in the last quarter of 2008, renewable energy received $3.1 billion – a full 86% of the total. Continuing research and development into better, less expensive, more energy efficient ways to run our homes and businesses has only fueled an already blazing fire.

With the constant advances in solar panel technology, solar training schools that provide installer training are in great demand. As training facilities, most solar schools offer intense courses, more like boot camps, with hands-on training and powerful in-house training. It's now become imperative that the solar energy industry have enough trained professional to keep up with the high demand, and solar schools have stepped up to fill the skills gap.

Let's use solar photovoltaic (PV) panel technology as an example. Over three decades ago, the first wave of solar power hit the mainstream in the form of expensive, silicon-wafer solar cells. The reason for the expense was (and still is) is the necessary thickness of the wafer cells. In addition, wafers are fragile and require careful handling.

Approximately ten years ago, in an attempt to cut down on the high production costs, the solar industry developed "thin-film" solar cells – the furthest advancement in solar technology since we first harnessed the sun's energy. These thin-film solar cells are stacked in layers and are much thinner than wafers. Printed with specially developed semiconductor ink in a high-vacuum based process, these cells are still expensive to produce. While thin-film solar cells have pluses over earlier solar wafers, there are still issues with production costs, performance and various other areas.

However, technology, research, development and the solar industry combined have proven that there's always going to be something "neater". New technology in the areas of solar energy has grown to the point that it will potentially be possible to paint the solar cells (or roof, or whatever) with this semiconductor ink. And remember – solar technology has jumped this much in only ten years. Imagine the possibilities in another ten.

The question is how is all this technology possible? What is the driving force? Although there are many reasons (politics, environmental concerns, money, better living through better technology), none of it would be possible without dedicated training at formal solar panel schools.

An excellent candidate for training at solar schools will have an interest in the solar industry, as well as solar panels and arrays. Those with a solid base in related fields, such as electricians, roofers, contractors and a variety of other fields will also find training beneficial.

Not only has solar power become a fascinating and rewarding career to get into, but also a stable career in an (as yet) unstable economy.

Many people think of solar power as "harnessing the sun's energy". Many people believe that solar technology means new technology. The truth, however, is that people have been using solar power since the 7th century. The truth – new technology is always built on the foundations of old technology, using the glue of ambition and need. The same can be said for a career in the solar industry, with training from solar schools as the foundation.

Solar Panel Schools – Your Building Blocks to the Future

The first solar powered tools were glass and mirrors, used to focus the sun to light fire. Now, we have printable solar cells to focus the sun to light our homes and businesses. What humble beginnings, to lead to something so fantastic – Jules Verne had no idea what 2009 would bring us.

If you're interested in solar technology, but think you don't have the right background to get into the field, consider the humble beginnings of the technology itself. Where are we now compared to glass and mirrors? Where could we be, with training from a solar panel school?

Solar panel schools are not just for people in relevant fields, such as electricians or contractors. Although it does help to have a little knowledge in basic algebra and geometry, the training courses offered by a school for solar energy are intensive and one-on-one. These courses will give you the foundation and needed background for an excellent career in the solar industry.

Back to the Basics

If you think of "solar panel schools" as "solar installer schools", you couldn't be farther from the truth. True, you'll learn the basics of solar installation, but the training is designed to fit many types of career paths.

Solar panel schools start with NABCEP's (North American Board of Certified Energy Practioners) Entry Level Certificate of Knowledge of PV Systems. This is the industry-standard general knowledge certificate for those entering the field. If you choose to become an installer, you can then move on to the PV (Photovoltaic) Installer Certification program.

As you enter the solar training course, you'll learn what our ancestors already knew as they built their homes to face the sun – sun paths and horizon profiles, peak sun hours and shading effects. From the foundations those basics provide, you'll move to learning about current technology: the history of PV panels, system design, installation, estimating, effective solar business models, PV system applications and more.

By the time the course is finished, you'll know enough to begin a career in the solar industry, in whatever area you choose. Sales, installation, design, manufacture and PV troubleshooting are just a few of the possible career paths in this booming industry. As new technology replaces old and the future gets brighter, you have the chance now to set your pathway to a brighter career with training from solar panel schools.
