When you first get a new PC it can feel like a dream machine – running quickly and smoothly without crashing or displaying irritating pop-ups. However it only tends to take a few months before everything's back to normal and your once pristine super-computer is back to running at a crawl and laden with viruses and adware. The key then is prevention rather than cure, and by following a few simple tips you can keep your new PC virus free.

The first thing to do when setting up a new computer is to install a firewall. While virus checkers scan your computer for viruses, a firewall will alternatively prevent them from getting in the first place. This is particularly important for when you travel online, as the minute your computer connects to the internet it will likely be bombarded by a barrage of viruses and other malicious software. With a firewall you can block these attacks and monitor exactly which programs are allowed access to your computer and your connection. There are many programs that will do this for you for free too – just search Google for 'free firewall download'. Similarly you should set up new computers with anti-spyware software

Of course this is a slight case of chicken and egg, as you often need to go online in the first place in order to find the downloads which can leave you vulnerable for a short time – particularly as sites that provide free software are often dodgy. One solution is to transfer installation files from your old PC or from a friend so that you can install them without going online. In the case of Windows Vista however it’s much easier as Vista comes with a built-in firewall and built in anti-spyware called 'Windows Firewall' and 'Windows Defender' respectively, which will serve the same purpose.

The next thing to do is to set up an anti-virus programme. These will perform regular sweeps of your computer to find and destroy viruses (you decide how regularly) and will update themselves to ensure they always have access to the latest virus definitions (make sure you tell your firewall to allow access from anti-virus software). New viruses and spyware are being developed all the time however and this will mean your computer is susceptible unless you keep your software up-to-date. If you suspect your computer is acting unusual then you can manually run a virus check to ensure it’s not a virus causing the problems.

With these things in place you computer should now be protected against most attacks. However there are still a few tips you can adhere to help your computer out. The first is to install Firefox, which is an alternate browser to Explorer and is slightly less susceptible to adware and spyware. At the same time while browsing the internet try to avoid sites that you suspect might be bad for your computer – anything that contains a lot of free downloads or torrents. In fact file sharing programmes in general should be avoided. Similarly be careful when opening e-mail attachments, and never click on one unless you know who it's from and what it is.

Most Internet users recognize the need of protecting their computers against viruses, as the vast majority of us sooner or later become painfully aware of these nasty little programs when they shut down our PC, spam our mailbox or delete our files.
Internet: Spyware Programs

Viruses are, however, not the only malicious software programs out there. The newest addition to the evil software family is the so called Spywares and a good anti-virus program or firewall is not enough to safeguard against these clever programs.

Spywares are known by many names such as adware, trojans, malware, browser hijackers etc. The thing they all have in common is that they will transmit your personal information to companies and individuals who have an interest in knowing about your surfing habits, online purchases, credit worthiness, interests, web searches, chats, birth date and even your credit card number. For more information logon to www.change-ur-mind.com .The list goes on and on, since Spywares are constructed by promotional companies who need to know as much as possible about the online consumers to target them effectively. By ewes dropping on you online, these companies hope to be more successful when sending out promotional materials.

Spyware usually enter your PC by piggybacking on other software downloads. Every time you use downloaded or otherwise shared files, including Freeware, Shareware or p2p sharing programs, you stand the risk of unknowingly infecting your computer with Spyware. Even confirmed virus free music files, films and computer programs can have Spyware stowaways. Once inside your computer, they will hide, monitor all your actions and promptly start telling your secrets to anyone willing to listen.

Contrary to most viruses the Spywares actually make an effort not to be observed. Since they won't cause obvious harm such as deleting important files or shutting down your computer, they can thrive in your PC for years without you noticing, sending out massive amounts of information about all your online habits.

At a first glance, you might find this annoying but essentially harmless. Why not let the companies send me promotional material about things I am actually interested in? Spyware is however far from harmless, since the infiltration by Spyware not only let the companies know about your latest online search, but also much more private matters such as credit card details, online purchases of medicine and your private e-mail correspondence with family, friends and business partners. There are even examples of how this massive gathering of personal information has led to an overall loss of privacy and stolen identities. In the computerized world of today it is not hard to imagine the amount of damage and personal suffering the fraudulent use of a persons¡¯ identity can cause.

It is obvious to anyone that we must start combating the Spyware programs, but the best way of doing this is not to panic and pull the plug on your PC, never go online again and keep five feet away from all Freeware.

The ability to provide the highest level of customer service with the greatest levels of efficiency is paramount for companies in the market for web based help desk software. With this in mind, there are a few key features managers should look for during the evaluation process.

Complete email integration. This is a feature in just about all help desk software, however as your evaluating make sure there is complete email integration that can support multiple mailboxes (if needed), a variety of mail server configurations, for more detail go to: www.text2speech-converter.com. as well as key email features such as conversation threading and caching.

Interaction Log. To prevent staff from having to sift through emails and note pads to recall the last interaction with a customer, all good help desk software will automatically log all interactions, those with the customer as well as those between staff members, related to a customer inquiry. If this is done in a logical, easy to use manner, it will allow any staff member (with the appropriate access) to get quickly up-to-speed when necessary.

Flexible categorization capability. To optimize the efficiency of your help desk operation you'll want the ability to categorize each customer inquiry for later aggregate reporting where trends can be spotted and addressed in a more proactive manner.

For example, appropriate categorization and reporting could uncover a large number of requests around a refund/exchange process. For more detail go to: www.software-designers-pro.com. In an attempt to reduce staff time spent on this type of common inquiry, you could use tools with your customer portal (outlined below), such as knowledge base or forums, to outline a process for quick referral.

Self-service customer portal. Your customer-facing help desk site should contain the following components:

1. Customizable web submission form. Make sure you can collect the information you need, in the format you need it in.
2. Request status checker. This should include not only the most current update but all other interactions staff have had with the customer.
3. Easy to use knowledge base--more on the importance of this below.
4. Customer forums for collaborative problem solving. In some situations, your customers can be the best resource for other customers with questions. Foster a collaborative community around your product/service with a managed forum.

These features should be bundled in a template-driven portal that allows for customization with the components you want in the same, familiar, look-and-feel of your site.

A user-friendly knowledge base. While many web based help desk software packages include some form of knowledge base--be aware that not all are created equal. To ensure this is a tool your customers and staff will be confident in using, look for a knowledge base that has a logical layout; avoid overly complex, deeply nested knowledge bases.

Information About Computer Virus Warnings

It seems like every single day there is a new virus being created by individuals that can completely destroy are hard drives or just plain old annoy us. A few years back I ran into one of these hefty little problems while downloading something on a trusted or supposedly trusted site. It seems that even though it was a trustworthy site, a hacker had "cracked" the site and installed a virus which enabled anyone visiting that site or downloading from that site to be infected. It was absolutely horrific and was one of the reasons why I had to reformat my entire drive! It's really important for people to not only familiarize themselves with virus but to also make sure they have the correct software downloaded on their computer.

One of the main reasons it's a good idea to do this before your caught unprotected is because there is a great chance that once you are infected you will not be able to get the infected file off of your computer, instead it will fry your hard drive and you won't even be able to do something as simple as turning it on.

The following steps are ones you should take when owning a computer, have it be old or new, expensive or inexpensive. Virus have many capabilities such as causing permanent damage, and even stealing information off of your computer, information about you that you would rather keep private such as name, address, phone numbers and yes even credit card and banking information! This is definitely not something you would want in other peoples hands, so take heed where and when you can!

1. Utilize an anti virus program at all times.

2. Set Up and sustain an active firewall.

3. Make sure your system is up-to-date with all the existing updates.

4. Keep your browsers security system settings at maximum.

5. Never click yes when your web browser asks you if you want to install or open content coming from an administration you don't know or don't trust.

6. Set Up an anti-spyware program to enlarge the protection.

7. Never install a browser help or search bar accept for when it comes from a reliable source.

8. Use a unique credit card for online shopping.

9. Don't click on email attachments that are executable files when it's from someone you don't know! Or better yet download a program which will work side by side with you email program!

Also, I really wanted to touch base with the updates. Just because you have software on your computer does not mean you are protected infinitely, you need to update whenever the program asks you to. This will allow new virus definitions to be downloaded to your computer and to the program, which will allow the program to "pick up" new virus's you may have received.

If you don't update and you have received Trojan Ice on your computer, and the virus definition is unknown to your program, then when it scans your computer it will never even know anything is wrong! I know it can be annoying sometimes because it usually takes UP to several minutes for updates, but they are there for your benefit and to help you!

I'm sure your next question is; "how do I know which programs to use"? Well in most cases you can easily find sites online that offer reviews and downloads, but make sure you can trust these sites! Depending on what sort of virus you have, Trojan, or otherwise there is a specific chosen program for each one. For example, if you have found problems in your registry files it's a good idea to use something like Reg-cure Free which offers you the ability to perform an automatic repair of detected items after a scan. You can configure the settings so that a repair of detected items occurs after each scan.

Backup and restore: An automatic backup is created every time you use Reg-Cure. You can also have the option to restore items at any given time. This is the type of program you want, not only will it protect you and your computer but its also user-friendly and allows you to control the program. It's always a good idea to make sure the program has some sort of a restore point in case you accidentally delete something you shouldn't have! Lastly, most programs are completely free to download, some of them may have paid inclusions but this is more or less a donation type of option for the creator to be able to create upgrades for the program so that it can keep up with the latest threats!

Linux: Is It Right For Your Business?

Linux is an operating system, like Microsoft Windows, Maces, or UNIX. It was created as a hobby by Lines Tornados, a student at the University of Helsinki in Finland. What most people don’t know about Linux is that its source code is available to anyone. The Linux source code is called the kernel and it is the base of the Linux operating system. Because the source code or kernel is free, it has enabled hundreds of companies and individuals to release their own operating systems based on the Linux system. These operating systems or formats are often referred to as Linux distributions.

Each distribution has its own set of features and functionality that makes it unique. While Linux is generally considered free-ware and people associate that with no cost, that is not always the case. Some distributions are available for download for free and others are available on CD or floppy disk and have a small charge associated with them. You can find a list of distributions at www.viral-toolbar-builder.com and a list of applications at http://www.Linux.org/apps/

because if the adaptability of Linux it has been embraced and supported by a number of operating systems and software programs. For example, IBM, Hewlett-Packard and other giants of the computing world have embraced Linux and support its ongoing development and openoffice.org and Mozilla run on Linux. US retailing giant Wal-Mart began selling Linux systems back in 2002 - if Wal-Mart isn’t mainstream, nothing is.

What are the benefits of Linux?

Many people fear that Linux is going to be difficult to work with or that it will be difficult to find software that will run on Linux however Linux is a very standard operating system, compatible with just about any software you need.

Beyond being a standard operating system, Linux supports open source software which makes it a very economical operating system, especially if you program your own software. It offers many free or low cost applications which include, basic desktop applications like web browsers, email programs, word processing programs, spreadsheets, graphics programs, and file managers.

Linux can easily operate as a central server for your business. With Linux, you can serve your own web pages up for public consumption and handle your own email.

Linux doesn’t require top of the line hardware though many recommend you have at least 256 MB of RAM and at least 4 GB of space in your hard drive.

Linux is considered to be extremely stable and doesn't need to be rebooted periodically to maintain performance levels. Think about the last time you sat at your computer and it froze. Not fun, right? That doesn’t happen with Linux if it is configured correctly.

Linux isn’t going to be replaced anytime soon and when bugs are found in the system, a developer are quickly on the job and often times a solution is offered within a matter of hours, not months or years like many other operating systems.

Linux is also fast and can handle a number of tasks at the same time.

Linux also claims to be one of the most secure operating systems isn't plagued with the viruses that other operating systems generally deal with.

Linux is free from having to upgrade it or deal with proprietary file formats and licensing fees. You don’t have to register it due to its open source format.

You can have both Linux and windows on your computer. (You'll have to partition them on your hard drive and you can only boot them one at a time.)

Drawbacks of Linux

There is no 1800 customer service number to call. However, most distributions offer a support number or email to call if you find a bug. They also generally come with installation instructions.

You cannot run applications for MS windows on Linux. However, there are Linux emulators or applications that enable you to run some windows applications on your Linux system. They operate like a translator. Some of these a translation or emulator products are free and others are available for a price.

Linux is not able to run some advanced financial applications or reproduce some proprietary multimedia formats.

Tips and Advice:

Choose a popular distribution has a large developer community. A large developer community means that You’ll find the programs that you need easily and you will be able to install them with the same ease. The more well-known distributions have prepared programs in ‘packages’ that are easy to install. On top of this, there are tools designed especially for a particular distribution to manage these packages to make sure that programs run correctly right away or for more helps go to www.scripts-to-sell.com. The website Distrowatch.com maintains a comprehensive list of the most popular distributions.

Get the latest version of your chosen distribution. The newer the Linux distribution version, the better the hardware support. The number of glitches You’ll get in the installation process decreases with the newness of the version of Linux you choose.

Consider paying for your Linux distribution. It is true that you can get a full-featured Linux operating system free of charge by downloading it from any number of sources. This is an excellent alternative to an operating system like Windows, which either comes pre-loaded with a newly purchased computer (which gets figured into the cost), is bought separately or copied ‘illegally’. In most people’s experience, the popular Linux distributions are easy to install. However, if you do run into some glitch (normally hardware related), you may have a frustrating experience. Although there are a number of excellent Linux support forums out there, personalized advice on your particular problem may be hard to find.

Use an appropriate computer. if you want to use Linux to do the same things that you would with Windows XP or Mac OS X, then you’ll need the newest computer you can get your hands on. Avoiding ‘elite’ video cards and new, exotic hardware will also work in your favor because you don’t have to deal with hardware support which may be inferior to hardware support from other operating systems.
