The full form of ddr is double data rate. Ddr is a set of memory synchronized circuits applicalbe in computers. Ddr has enabled the double bandwidth of particular data rate with the help of double pumping even without raising the clock frequency. The ddr delivers highest transferring rate of 1600 MB/s.

Recently JEDEC has launched its standards in the market for data rates of ddr. In this the first focus is given on memory chips and secondlyon memory modules. As the phases of ddr has reshaped so the latest one is termed as ddr2 and the earlier ddr version often considered as ddr1. Every ddr module is carrying maximum 36 chips in it.

At present breadth of each channel of ddr memory bus is 64 bits. The ddr module capacity results same as the capacity of single chip counted by number of chips. In ddr the sizes of chips count in megabits. The JEDEC standard permits 128 Mx4 which is applicable for slower buffers made for certain servers.
