What to Expect on the Police Exam
I thought it would be important to discuss the police exam and what you’re going to see on it. There are a lot of people that fail. It is quite high at 70%, so this means that people have to work a lot harder on preparing for this. The fact that there is such a high failure rate demonstrates that there might be a little more to it than just not studying hard enough. It shows that there are things on this exam that catch people by surprise. Things that catch you by surprise couldn’t have been studied for. I’m going to show you what to expect on the police exam because that is the best way to succeed.
The important thing to understand is that not all exams are the same. Every department has a different one because they all have different requirements. Despite all the differences, they all go after the same core of questions. The test breaks up into the following sections:
· Math
· Reasoning
· Directionality
· Reading Comprehension
· Writing Ability
· And Memory
These are the core items in every police exam because they all make up pivotal skills for the job.
Math might not seem like something an officer would need to do and you’re right. The reason math is on this exam is to test for logic. This is the objective way to measure for logic. You’re not going to need to know a lot of math. Anything that you would of learned in grade school up to fractions and percentages, which is all basic stuff.
Reasoning is a little harder to prepare for because the answers are common sense. If you have common sense then you should have a problem and if you don’t you’ll struggle.
Directionality will focus on questions related to driving down streets and knowing you’re direction at all times. Reading comprehension and memory are all based on giving you something to read or look at, taking it away from you after a few minutes and asking questions.
Your writing ability is quite important. You will be writing reports as an officer and they will be used in court rooms, so you have to demonstrate proper spelling and grammar.
