"Oh, wow, you get to work on a flexible schedule? That's so COOL!" Usually, any Realtor who hears this manages to dredge up a ghastly smile from somewhere as they agree that, yes, it is nice to be able to buy your quadruple-espresso-with-an-added-shot-of-caffeine at any time during the day instead of being cruelly confined to the lunch hour. However, they may add, it also means that you can get swamped by work when your friends are gaily preparing for the bar after their jobs end at 5 PM.

To avoid the wonderful world of burnout and the if-you-only-knew speech that you feel obligated to give people who rave about your supposed freedom, it is imperative that you start giving yourself as much time as you give your clients... or more. In order to be a good Realtor, you need to take care of yourself and what is important to you. Cozy condos, palatial properties and stunning views can only take you so far.

Throw off the yoke of dull care and become worthy of your friends' and acquaintances' envy! Scheduling your time is one way to not hate your chosen career. The nature of a lot of Realtors' work is that the very flexibility their friends envy them for makes them prey to a plethora of demands outside of normal working hours unless they put caps on their work time. Your work is, to some extent, your life... make it as pleasant a part of your life as possible.

When making time for the important parts of your life, you're going to find that scheduling really helps. By 'really helps', I mean 'saves your life'. There's a reason the 9-5 jobs have scheduled work times, meetings, breaks, etc. It's so things keep going and you don't have people wandering around, trying to disseminate information to random individuals or fainting over their time clocks because they haven't had anything to eat since 7 AM. But even the independent businessperson can find comfort and regular meals using this strategy.

You may be familiar with scheduling appointments to show houses to clients and making time to meet with co-workers, but scheduling your leisure time and time with family is also important, especially when you're working on a 'flexible' schedule. Scheduling time means that you can tell yourself and others, "Sorry, I already have an appointment at that time", even if that appointment is taking your kid to Little League (and Realtors have closed houses for people they met at their child's soccer practice or basketball games).

Treat your family and friends like important clients. They are significant parts of your life; treat them that way. Would you cancel an appointment with an important client for anything less than the prospect of imminent death or amputation of a limb? Then don't do it to your family and/or friends for anything less than the most stringent circumstances. This is the whole point of scheduling, so you can make sure that you have enough time in your day/week/month/year to do the things that are most important to you.

Despite the joys of eating on the run and working late into the night, try to adhere to a reasonable schedule of sleeping, eating and exercising. Walking from your home to your car doesn't count. You need enough sleep, regular exercise and a proper diet to maintain a healthy body, without which you will be prey to some of the more popular ailments available today. Also, a healthy lifestyle means that you will feel better and have more energy for the things you want to do.

Guard your time like it's a well-rotted bone and you're a starving junk yard dog. While your clients can reasonably expect that you will communicate with them in a timely manner, they don't have the right to call you at all hours of the day and night. You don't have to leap up from the family dinner table to show a home in under an hour's notice. Set regular business hours and regular times when you answer calls and email. Making your limits clear in this respect can stop a lot of problems before they start.

Your time is the most valuable commodity you have. Once you've spent it, you will never get it back. To ensure that it is well-spent (or well-wasted; there's nothing like an hour tormenting the Sims you've made in your clients-from-hell's image to get you into your happy place), set reasonable limits on the amount of time you give your work and play. Make sure you schedule the time you have for your family and friends as carefully as you would appointments with your clients. You'll end up being a better Realtor and able to eventually respond to envious comments about your freedom with something like, "Yeah, isn't it great?" and enjoying the fleeting sour expressions.

You've already made up your mind that there has to be more to life than careers, cubicles, and commuting. Yet, the prospect of making a major life change when you're already feeling caught between a "clock and a hard place," feels overwhelming.

Here are five simple steps even the busiest person seeking a major career change can take to get the process rolling:

1. Turn griping time into planning time.

How much time do you spend every week blowing off steam about your lousy job? Instead of wasting precious time complaining about what you DON'T want, use the time to create a clear mental picture of what you DO want. Then make a plan for getting from here to there. Five minutes a day spent working your plan will move you far closer to your goal than 15 minutes of griping.

2. Keep your goal front and center.

Get out your calendar and set a target date for when you want your new life to begin. Besides being a great source of motivation, knowing how much time you have until "D-Day" lets you create a realistic plan for hitting it. Next, find creative ways to keep your dream, literally, in your face. As you come across images or quotes that reflect your dream, place them around your workspace, in your daily planner, on the refrigerator -- any place you're sure to regularly "see" your destination.

3. Buy with an eye to the future.

If your dream involves working from the comfort of home, you probably won't need all those business suits overrunning your closet. Resolve now to make do with the work wardrobe you already have. When you do take the leap, you can donate your business attire to an organization like Dress for Success that assists men and women just entering the job market. Spend the money you've saved instead on things you'll need for your new career or venture -- like courses, buying or upgrading a home office computer, purchasing equipment, inventory, and so on.

4. Avoid the nay-seers.

Erma Bombeck once said, "It takes a lot of courage to show someone else your dreams." Erma knew that most people -- especially those closest to you -- tend to discourage change of any kind. Unfortunately, other people's skepticism, like the flu, can be contagious. And, unless you've built up your immune system, these dream killers can knock you for a loop. Don't look for support from pessimistic family or friends. Instead seek out people who can give your dream the support it deserves.

5. Do what you can -- but DO SOMETHING.

As one Chinese proverb reminds us, moving a mountain begins by lifting one stone. To keep from being overwhelmed -- while still making headway -- break your larger goal down into more manageable steps. Then, no matter how hectic your day, pledge to take at least one small step. Before you know it you'll have turned your dreams into your life.

In this highly competitive world, businesses are often looking for new ways to improve their productivity and generate profits. Often the answer to this question is simple. It all starts from dealing with your office environment. Keeping it clean.

A healthy workplace with healthy workers equates to increased revenue for the company. This statement shows you the magic formula to many successful businesses in the world.

One often associates a well kept house with an immaculate looking housekeeper and a messy house with a frazzled looking housewife with disheveled hair. For customers and potential clients a good impression is priceless. It is essential that your offices look clean and that your staff is healthy.

Having a spick and span workplace goes a long way in improving the productivity of your workers and increases the revenue generated by them. By keeping the environment clean your workers are less likely to fall sick and take sick-leave. It will be easier to keep them working and producing for your company.

It is not difficult to keep your office clean. There are a vast number of janitorial cleaning companies to choose from in the Orange County area. By hiring a reputable and professional cleaning company you can be assured that your office is thoroughly cleaned before your workers start work each day.

The professionals will make sure that your toilets are sanitized, stocked with toilet rolls and anti-bacterial soap is available for use at every sink. Your carpets will be regularly vacuumed to prevent the growth of dust mites and your lights will be periodically maintained. They will also help to insure that your office air quality remains good and that it meets the guidance issued by EPA and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

Through contracting cleaning companies whose cleaners have been Green Clean Institute Certified, you can be assured that you are having the best qualified cleaners keep your office looking its best. You need not worry about the office meeting industry wide cleaning standards or the introduction of harmful germs and bacteria which may result in your employees suffering from the Office Building Syndrome.

By keeping your office clean, tidy and presentable it will leave a good impression on both your employees and clients. Employees will feel appreciated knowing that their employer has their welfare at heart through your efforts to keep their workplace hygienic and a pleasant place to work.

Contracting a janitorial cleaning company to look after your office space would be a great investment for your business. Consider hiring one today.

Many women today wish they could be work at home Moms so that they can be home with their children. Can your Mom skills help you run a successful business? You bet they can! Your Mom skills are your best asset and will serve you well to start and become successful at building your own business.

You are already run very important corporation, your home and family! You organize schedules, plan events, make sure food and household supplies are stocked, manage the budget and a multitude of other tasks every day. As a woman and a mom you have unique talents and skills, these transfer over to running a business quite nicely!

Before you became a mom you probably worked, went to college or university. You may have worked in an office or in as a sales clerk in a store. Whatever skills you had as a single woman became the foundation for your skills as a mom. Consequently, what you learn as a mom, directly relates to what you learned long ago and when combined, can be transferred into other areas of your life including having a direct selling career.

I was thinking about my own mom skills today and which ones transferred into business skills for me. I bet most of them will for you too.

Do you love learning? If you are the type of Mom who enjoys learning new things and how to be a better parent you'll find this is an asset to your business. It seems like there is a lot to learn when you are starting a new business but if you take small steps you'll have it mastered in no time.

Do you look after the household budget? Your budgeting and money management skills will be a real asset to your business. If you don't look after this area you really should learn the basics. After all you never know what the future holds and you might need to know this.

Do you organize your families schedules? Most women do, so this will make you an expert in planning and organizing your business. Your business success depends on your making an action plan, and fitting it into your schedule.

Are you a nurturer? Most women are born helpers so your caring, nurturing side will enhance your customer service skills. You've probably dealt with some grumpy or unhelpful sales people in your day to day shopping so use that as an example of what not to do.

Do you like meeting new people? If you are a people person or crave some adult interaction a direct selling career could be the solution for you. It gives you the opportunity to get out and meet new and interesting people. Being able to talk to people and show an interest in them is a real asset.

These are just a few of your mom skills that can make you a business success story! If you have been thinking about starting your own business but didn't believe you had the skills, now you know that you do. Your dream of being a work at home mom could be a reality, if you are brave enough to give it a try.

When you begin your journey to operating your own small business, one of the first things that you can realize is just how much pressure and stress you can be under. Without doubt, your small business will add a number of new responsibilities and concerns which can begin to dominate your life and not the reason why you first embarked on the own your own business journey. While it is extremely important to commit and devote yourself to your personal projects, spending too much time stressing about your work and meeting all of your goals can have some very negative effects on your health and well-being!

It is so important to take time out for yourself each day and do what you can to relax, get those worries off your mind, relieve all the pressure that can build up more and more each day. Find someone close to debrief with on a regular basis, preferrably daily. When you feel good and you are think positively it can have an incredible effect on your productivity, especially if you have contact with clients during the course of your day, because rest assured those clients can sense when you are under a lot of stress.

There are a number of possibilities when it comes to relaxing and lowering your overall level of stress and it is certainly a very personal matter, techniques range considerably among individuals. Some people find listening to their favorite music relaxing enough, others like to practice meditation, tai chi, or yoga, and still others find jogging the most beneficial exercise for clearing their mind of stresses. You may also like to try taking a long, hot bubble bath at the end of the day, or just putting on some comfy clothes and settling into your favorite chair to read a novel. The options really are endless! No matter how small it seems, it is vital to your long term success! Heed the warning!

Just remember that while you may be a dedicated small-business owner, you are still an individual whose mind, body and spirit also need nurturing and nourishment. You may indeed be capable of taking the world on your shoulders, but remember mind over matter, if your mind is full of worry and stress, all the work you can do may not matter. Would you rather have a large quantity of work to show for your stress, or experience a quality of life and work which you can both enjoy and take pride in?

It is extremely important in Small Business to master the art of delegation, become a the master of it, which will increase your productivity and free up your personal time.

According to the Mayo Clinic, by allowing your self time to completely relax on a daily basis, you can reduce muscle tension, increase blood flow throughout your body, and even lower your blood pressure. The valuable effects of relaxation are numerous. In general, it can help to improve how you physically respond to stress. You can experience fewer headaches (It is extremely important to keep your body hydrated, ensure you drink enough fluids) and less back pain, as well as less anger and frustration in response to stressful situations.

Not only that, but relaxation can also enhance your productivity and efficiency by improving your concentration and increasing your capacity to handle unforeseen problems during your workday. So really, sacrificing a little bit of time everyday to draw your attention away from your work to focus on yourself, may in fact be one of the best things you can do for your business!

If you have a small business or company that employs a few people, you may have heard of the term - payroll services. It is plastered all over the internet, especially in the sectors that relate to businesses or new businesses. Thousands of companies offer you their payroll services for this fee or that fee, all trying to be better than the rest. Have you ever stopped and asked yourself, what is a payroll service?

The best way to describe company payroll services is to say that it is a massive helping hand! Not only can it take a great weight off your mind, a weight that means you have to spend hours working out wages, sorting out national insurance and tax and such like, frustrated at having to do them and occasionally making mistakes, but it also saves time, can save money and over all works out better for your general health!

By general health, I mean that employing someone to take over your payroll services; can seriously reduce your stress levels! More time doing the same job will stress you out, and having to do them every week or month, can be tiring and frustrating!

Company payroll services can free up time that can be better spend in other departments on your business to better it and to help you boost sales. For example, time that you would normally spend on sorting out wages and suchlike can be spent on better promotion, improving a sales list, sending out marketing emails and other things. In this way, you can try and boost your client lists, increase sales and therefore employing payroll services would therefore prove profitable for your business!

Although you may have to pay for payroll services, you may find that in the long run, this payout will prove to make you money and that is because you can spend your time on other important things such as listed above. Not only that, but this service is part of a competitive market, and you can easily shop around for the company that gives you the best price for the best service online. In this way, you can compare prices and therefore choose the cheaper option.

Payroll services are convenient. In a world where there are many inconveniences, you should take the opportunity to utilise these services for your own personal gain, whether you choose to spend the time saved by relaxing or concentrating on other parts of your business, company payroll services can benefit you, and maybe you should look at taking advantage of that!

A report published by Chiumento - a leading UK human resources company - has shown that the number of UK employees taking a regular lunch break away from their desk has significantly diminished as worries over job security has grown.

The research indicated that only 16 percent of employees regularly take a full hour on at least three occasions in working week. The announcement will be seen by many as a clear indication that the modern day employee faces further unnecessary stress at a time when finances and expenditure are limited by the credit crunch.

The fact that employees are feeling the need to work through their lunch, take lunch at their desks or disappear for little more than ten minutes should be of concern to both employees and employers alike. Of course, some employers will be more than happy that their workers are putting in additional time at no extra cost, but the effects of not taking sufficient breaks can be the root of problems relating to the quality of work performed.

On the part of the employee, the opinion seems to be that should they take a break - which is legally theirs to enjoy - they will be seen in a less favourable light to their peers. In turn, this leads to the feeling that any possibility of promotion dissipates while the potential for dismissal increases.

Quite frankly, no employer can promote or dismiss on this basis, not least since the alternative is for staff to work additional five hours a week unpaid. Do some basic maths and that is 20 hours a month, or 240 hours a year. In this worse case scenario, even those working on minimum wage will be losing out on over GBP1,300 annually! Ok, this may not be the most accurate or scientific of calculations, but the principal is the same.

What should be asked by the employer, however, is why their staff feel the need to work through. Are they perhaps incapable of performing the necessary tasks required in the time available? Should this be the case, then perhaps staff training issues need to be addressed or, more distressingly, more competent and capable workers need to be obtained.

Another potential cause may perhaps be the fact the workload put upon them is too significant to be successfully maintained during standard working hours. Once again, these issues should be addressed in relation to staff capability and staff numbers.

A third possibility may be the fact that staff members are wasting time during the standard working day and are having to use their lunch hour to catch-up with work that should have already been completed.

It should be the responsibility of employers, therefore, to encourage their members of staff to take a prolonged break from work during the middle of the day. Enabling staff to enjoy the time that is rightfully theirs, free from any unnecessary worry, will make for a happier workforce. And, as the age-old cliche goes, a happy workforce is a productive workforce.

Should the powers that be not encourage a daily lunch break for their staff, they will eventually be the ones to suffer. The standard of work and the health of the employee are at risk. In the best interests of the business and the worker, therefore, the needs for sufficient break are paramount.

Accordingly, having reached the end of this article, I hope you all join me in taking a well-deserved lunch break!

Do Not Let Your Business Become Your Life!

We often forget about ourselves because of how hectic our lives have become. So many things need to be accomplished each day and there never seems to be enough time to do it all. Eventually you find yourself working later and later. Then you start putting in time on the weekends. Eventually you are at work more than you are at home. Your business has become your life.

It doesn't need to be this way though. Not if you lay down some ground rules for yourself. If you have a family they will appreciate having you home. You can't neglect the rest of your life just because of your responsibilities as a small business owner. You have a responsibility to yourself and the other people in your life. That is something you should never forget no matter how hectic your working life become.

So what kind of ground rules do you need? Well for starters the number of hours you put in at work need to be set. Now we know a forty hour work week is not going to be a reality but you can try to limit yourself to something less than seventy or eighty hours. Try to set yourself a time that you need to be out of the office and on your way home each night. If you have a family try to make it a point to be home in time to have dinner with them. If you need to put some time in on the weekend make sure to limit yourself. If you have to go do it early then leave by noon. Get out and do things. Enjoy your weekend. Your business will still be there Monday morning.

So what if you are the kind of person that takes your work home with you. Well that is a decision for you to make. But you need to ask yourself whether it would be more productive for you to take it home or could it possibly wait until tomorrow. More times than not it can wait until the next day and then you can give the task the attention it needs. Home is full of distractions. And when you are at home you need to be doing other things. Even if you don't have a family to go home to you need to take the time to give yourself a mental break.

Everyone needs to take time out from what you do. If not you are going to burn yourself out. And that will not be good for you or your company. Regularly taking a break is good for you both mentally and physically. Too many people work themselves into the ground. You don't want to be that type of person.

What else can you do to have a life outside of your work? Take a vacation! People that run their own businesses go years without finding the time to go on vacation. Occasionally we need to get away from it all if you ever want to be able to recharge your batteries. Yes it can be a hard thing to do. You either have to shut things down for a few days or trust someone else to hold down the fort while you are gone. Whatever it takes everyone needs to take a few days off. Not just a few hours or a couple of days. You need a real vacation. A week in a land of paradise is preferable.

Remember that taking care of yourself is not just good for you it can be good for your company and even the people that work for you. Not to mention your family if you have one to go home to. Everyone needs time to themselves and time to spend with others besides those you work with. So no matter what you do not want your business to become your life!

Are you the person that can never get anything done? Do you feel like your work day is always moving faster than you can? Or are you the eternal procrastinator? Whatever the reason, there's never seems to be enough time in the day to get everything done. But, here's the good thing. There's tons of things you can do to improve your efficiency and gain back some of that lost time. Let's take a look at eight solid things you can do today to improve your work and time efficiency.

Just like they say at AA, the first step is to acknowledge that you have a problem. So, knowing that you have a time management problem and accepting it is the first step to improving it. So stop denying it and accept it.

The second step is to decide. You need to decide that you're going to do something about your time management. You can know you have a problem, and you can acknowledge that you have a problem, but until you decide that you're going to do something about it nothing else matters. Once you decide that you have a time management problem, you can move forward. Save yourself some goals that you can achieve. And in the same way that someone tries to lose weight, make sure the goals are actually achievable. Create some success but you can build on.

Number three, stick to your goals. The reason that you create a goal is so that you have something to hold yourself accountable to. If you can't secure goals, and you're not going to achieve anything. That's why it's so important to create goals that are achievable. Once you achieve those initial goals, you can raise the bar again and continue to strive to get better, and better. You also have to have a stick to it might set, you have to make sure you don't give up.

The fourth step is to create daily task lists. Creating a to do list for yourself is an easy way to properly manage your time. In fact, it is one of the easiest approaches that you can take. Outline what you need to do throughout the day. Be sure to list your tasks in order of importance. Every time you accomplish something, cross it off of the task list. Not only will this give you a sense of accomplishment, but you can see how you're getting things done during the day. At the end of the day create the new list for the next day. At the end of the week, create the new list for the next week.

Use time management tools. Properly managing your time is important, but it can be hard for many individuals to get use to, especially right away. If you are one of those individuals, you will want to consider using time management tools to your advantage. But make sure that the time management tools don't become time wasters. Your PDA, or your scheduler, should be used quickly and efficiently. Don't spend minutes and hours just messing around and tooling with it.

Learn to say no. In all honesty, there are times where you may not be able to refuse a project at work or a task at home, but try to not take on more than you can accomplish. If you must, look into using outside help. In the home, this outside help can come from a housecleaner. At the workplace, this outside help can come from a coworker. Remember, there is a nice way and a rude way to say no. But at the end of the day if you are the one that says yes all the time, you never get anything done for yourself.

Get organized. Organization is key to being able to properly manage your time. If you are unorganized, you are likely to waste a large amount of time. For example, in the workplace you can waste time by searching for lost or misplaced documents. The same can be said for the home; if you are unorganized, you can spend hours searching for your glasses or car keys. Look at your desk, lift your computer, and ligature filing system. If things are all over the place, you will have a hard time finding them and you will waste time. Take a few minutes at the end of every day to put things back where they belong to you can start your next day fresh.

Get a coach. Or get help. If you have that much to do, and you're super busy, it may make sense to hire someone to help keep you organized like an assistant, or if you're just having a really hard time keeping to your plan, a coach can help keep you accountable.

Put all of these steps to work and you are sure to see success! Remember, you only have 24 hours in the day so make use of every single minute wisely.
